FADER TV: Avoiding Disease At The Yard
- story THE FADER
A couple weeks ago Brooklyn fairy godfather Todd P organized a massive mid-summer party at The Yard, a lovely greenspace on the shores of the gonorrheic Gowanus Canal (Oh shit! Gowanorrhea!), with performances by many FADER favorites such as Oneida, High Places, Shy Child, Crystal Antlers, Ponytail, Telepathe, Vivian Girls, Abe Vigoda, Soft Circle, Soiled Mattress and the Springs and Chairlift. We asked Todd if we could bring our video camera, and of course he said yes. We edited the nine or so hours down to several easily-digested minutes with performances by Ponytail, Crystal Antlers, Vivian Girls, Telepathe and Shy Child. Catch the virulent experience only on FADER TV.

FADER TV: Soiled Mattress & The Springs Blow Up
- story THE FADER
Awhile back we hit up downtown jazzers Soiled Mattress and the Springs to see if they would make some kind of cool video for us. They were totally into it, and worked for awhile on it—presumably because they were really busy with stuff like going on tour with No Age. Well, wait no more because last night they hit us off with this video that reminded us that they are awesome and also made us think about the dangers of fire (it’s hot). It’s actually a little sad, because the band has decided to call it quits after their final show at The Yard next to the Gowanus Canal this Saturday (where they’ll be playing with Soft Circle, Crystal Antlers, High Places, Abe Vigoda and about 100 other bands.) Drummer Aviram Cohen and keyboardist Peter Schuette are continuing on as Silk Flowers along with Ethan Swan of Car Clutch, and we imagine Matthew Thurber will probably keep doing what he’s doing, which is hanging out with Picturebox dudes and making crazy art and comics. Check out the massive lineup for the all day event at The Yard after the jump. Whew. We feel like we just mapped out every band ever in a single blog post.

Lots Of Bands We Like Play In The East River Park Bandshell Tomorrow
- story THE FADER
We’ve got some websclusive Lucky Dragons stuff coming up a little later, so for now we will just tell you that what we did was good vibes central. Also good vibes central will be this outside show (starting at 3ish tomorrow) in the East River Park bandshell featuring the aformentioned Lucky Dragons as well as FADER bros Soiled Mattress and the Springs, Aniemental, Lexie Mt. Boys, John Wiese and David Horvitz. It’s going to be really hot tomorrow so wear sunscreen (or just get burned) and drink a lot of water while you are obviously having a great time at this event.
Schnipper’s Slept On
- story THE FADER
Each Tuesday, FADER editor Matthew Schnipper highlights an underappreciated recent release he thinks we need to know about. This week it’s Soiled Mattress and the Springs’ Springtime!. Download “Tidal Wave” for free here (which is actually from Honk Bonk Bonk! which isn’t out on vinyl yet so I don’t have that shit because I don’t really fuck with CDs too much). Buy Springtime! here and read about it sort of after the jump. Sort of read about it I mean. You definitely are gonna read after the jump. Look it’s been a long couple of weeks.
Video: Soiled Mattress And The Springs, “Jackpot”
- story THE FADER
This video, by musical anomalies Soiled Mattress and the Springs could be taken right from an episode of 3-2-1 Contact, only instead of learning about like, ice cream or phosphorous we get to learn about gambling, basketball, and water aerobics.
