Style TV: Shop Talk at Operations

Since Matteo Gottardi’s brain doubles as an encyclopedia for international workwear (he literally ID’d the year of the military coats on our backs!) we had the Operations creative director walk us through the flagship store in SoHo himself. Operations was started by three college friends (Gottardi is one third of the trio) back in 2004, and those first rare workwear imports that filled store are still part of local sartorial legend. They now design collections for both men and women, and we caught Gottardi’s breakdown of the season’s best outerwear pieces on film.

Style TV: Shop Talk at Inven.tory

The folks behind Inven.tory opened their first space on Kenmare with the aim of combining our two favorite shopping ingredients: indie designers and outlet pricing. It’s sort of like an endlessly awesome sample sale, or, as their slogan goes, “Fashion vices, recession prices!” Their newest location on Lafayette in SoHo is even bigger and houses the Cheap Monday pop-up store as well as some stellar emerging brands, including the likes of LD Tuttle and LA-based menswear line Idol Radec. There’s even an edit of vintage pieces in the back (tangerine hot pants anyone?) and a stylistically thorough collection of vintage men’s shoes which, all in all, makes the store a one-stop shop for just about everything we will be needing this summer.

Style TV: Behind the Scenes Shop Talk Special at Topshop

On our maiden voyage to Topshop a couple of weeks ago (oh the lines!), we were lucky enough to have Topshop Style Advisor Keri Gibbs help us navigate the whopping four floors of goodness. This week, the gorgeous Gibbs was lovely enough to invite us in to Topshop’s VIP showroom, for a special behind the scenes edition of Shop Talk and peek at what will be hitting the store in the weeks to come. Appointments for the advisor are pretty much booked through early May, which is probably still good timing to get your sunnies/bikini/sundress game in order before the heatwaves hit.

Style TV: Interview with Carl Malmgren of Cheap Monday

We persuaded Cheap Monday designer Carl Malmgren to take a little break from putting together the mammoth denim installation that he and the rest of the Swedish design team were busy working on. Malmgren gave us the back story behind their customization world tour and a breakdown of the awesomely hellish process that each pair of world tour jeans goes through before it can be labeled perfectly distressed. The Cheap Monday pop-up store-within-a-store is still going on at Inven.tory in SoHo, with a ton of great Cheap Monday denim and non-denim on sale. We think we might have even spotted a few limited edition world tour pieces up for grabs.
