Midday yesterday, Dead Weather aka Jack White and Alison Mosshart and two other less famous though still valuable folks, played a pop-up shop on Chrystie Street in Manhattan. We sent our eyes and ears to the streets, photographer Sunny Shokrae and intern extraordinaire Natalia Ciolko, out to report. Stream: The Dead Weather, Horehound LP

In our current summer music issue, we concocted a line graph of supergroups gone wrong, and suggested The Dead Weather, comprised of Jack White (White Stripes), Alison Mosshart (The Kills), Dean Fertita (Queens of the Stone Age) and Jack Lawrence (The Raconteurs), might be an exception to the rule. We didn’t base this solely on their collective hair, but on their new album Horehound, out July 14th, which, contrary to the complacent non-jams on most supergroup albums, makes it sound like being a gigantic rock star is the most aggravating job in the world. We know for a fact that manual labor is more aggravating, but Horehound is still awesome. Hear it right now in its entirety for 24 hours on The Internet.

Levi’s®/FADER Fort Video: The Kills Interview

Not only do we watch musicians play music here at Levi’s®/FADER Fort, but we also attempt to speak to them as if they were real live human beings. Case in point, the effortlessly star-striking Alison and Jamie of The Kills talked to us about recording, Paris, Texas and feeling mischievous. Also, surprise, they looked awesome.

Levi’s®/FADER Fort: The Kills

The Kills have been doing this handsome vamp shit long enough for us to have kind of slept on the fact that they, ahem, kill it live, which they just did here at Levi’s®/FADER Fort. Old songs and new, but still, no one but the two of them in nice shades and slightly flushed cheeks. In fact, part of what makes watching them so great is that they have so much swagger it hurts. We’ll have some video of their performance later, but for now check a few photos.

Video: The Kills, “U.R.A. Fever”

This video looks like if American Apparel existed in 1995 and made detached commercial art pieces with that washed-out Nine Inch Nails production design. Basically what we are saying is, based on style alone, this video makes us think of reading Grand Royal magazine and skateboarding.
