Midnight Juggernauts Live at The Levi’s FADER Fort NYC
- story THE FADER
There have been about a million remixes of Midnight Juggernauts‘ “This New Technology,” but we’re not going to weigh you down with yet another version today. Here’s the real deal, performed live at last weekend’s all-day sauna at The Levi’s®/FADER Fort. Heat didn’t even phase the Juggernauts—probably because they’re from Australia or outer space or some place that’s hot all of the time [Ed. Australia].

Jenny Wilson A Capella at The Levi’s/FADER Fort
- story THE FADER
After her spectacular performance at the Levi’s®/FADER Fort, we brought Swedish queen Jenny Wilson and crew upstairs to record an a capella version of “Like a Fading Rainbow” while they sat on the bed in Room 501. And then laid on it. For all of the original’s tiny clamor, they got pretty close to the details that make it move. If you ever get a chance to have this lady sing for you, do it.

Restless People Live at The Levi’s/FADER Fort NYC
- story THE FADER
Restless People played first at The Levi’s®/FADER Fort last week, but we were already perspiring as though we were in hour seven of Carnival as augmented by a few too many Trini rum punches. Fortunately, Restless People were prepped for the heat with their punky art dudes’ take on the jubilant rhythms of soca and got the early-afternoon crowd loose for an unstoppable basement dance party, windowless and impervious to the passage of time. By the end of their set, the mantra for the happy day was, ineffably, “HAAAY, RESTLESS PEEEEOOPLE!”

The Smith Westerns at The Levi’s/FADER Fort NYC
- story THE FADER
Fresh-faced youngsters, The Smith Westerns, stopped by The Levi’s®/FADER Fort during last week’s CMJ festivities. They sat on the beds in Room 501 and strummed out the would-be 1970’s teen movie theme, “Girl In Love.” Except that instead of backing it up with the heavy, Jock Jams percussion from the album, they substituted wistful hand claps.

VEGA Live at The Levi’s/FADER Fort NYC
- story THE FADER
Alan Palomo and friends killed it on the synths at last Saturday’s Levi’s®/FADER Fort, playing as his “other” band – VEGA, since Neon Indian was not available. Their super-dancey “No Reasons” left no able-bodied person standing still on the dancefloor. We kind of wanted to dance too, but we had to hold cameras and shit. Fun Friday fact: in addition to being a cool band, Vega is also the brightest star in the constellation Lyra, the fifth brightest star in the night sky and the second brightest star in the northern celestial hemisphere, after Arcturus!

Warpaint Live at The Levi’s/FADER Fort NYC
- story THE FADER
Warpaint swung by the Levi’s®/FADER Fort last week after a mind-melting performance at the FADER 64 Issue Release Party, and played “Beetles” in Room 501 for us. These ladies have a certain je ne sais quoi that keeps our eyes glued to all eight minutes of this epic, epic song. Maybe it’s the bassline or the cool head scarves or the inside joking, but we kind of felt like the nerds in the bleachers while they smoked underneath them. Thanks for taking us back to the good old days, ladies.

Chauffeur Live at The Levi’s/FADER Fort
- story THE FADER
Chauffeur, the band not the dude who drives you to Sexytown in one of those limos with the hottub in the trunk, stopped by The Levi’s®/FADER Fort last weekend to play their one song, “Soles of Fire,” commissioned by Gucci to coincide with Mark Ronson’s new collabo with the brand. They also played a Sheila E. cover, but we’re keeping that one for ourselves (unless y’all want to see it). We texted Ronson and Theophilus minutes after they left the stage and Ronson was already back in the studio while TL was on a flight to Europe. Don’t let the sharp duds fool you—these dudes work for it.

Jenny Wilson Live at the Levi’s/FADER Fort NYC
- story THE FADER
To those of you who were there Saturday at the Levi’s®/FADER Fort, you can claim to have witnessed the future-legendary Jenny Wilson’s first show in the United States. In from Sweden, Wilson diva’d it up in a giant blue ruffled robe that when she slinked around the stage made her look like a high cheekboned Cheshire Cat. Her mischievous music is certainly Alice in Wonderland appropriate, too. This track, “The Wooden Chair,” is from her Hardships album—a concept record about motherhood. Pick it up, check her incredible video for “Like a Fading Rainbow” and check back soon for a special FADER TV rendition of that song. Non-Swedes, get familiar!
