Exclusive Video: Ida Maria, “Forgive Me” (Live)

You can’t say beloved Norwegian rock band Ida Maria doesn’t earn their keep, man, this chick gets it in! We would be panting like stuck pigs if we were sweating this much, but her voice still sounds incredible! Life is not fair. Some people just sing great and can wear fancy gilded flapper dresses. And some people have a sadistic personal trainer and turn the color of eggplant after running for five minutes. If you want to go ogle the beautiful people, and see this band in action, their North American tour kicks off tonight in Philly, and we have the rest of the dates for you after the jump.

Video Premiere: Cubic Zirconia “Fuck Work” + Dam-Funk Remix

As far as supergroups go, we’re not really that about it (megalomaniacs rarely work well together), but we’ve been itching to hear Cubic Zirconia’s new stuff for months. The power quartet that is vocalist Tiombe Lockhart, Nick Hook (of Drop the Lime band), Todd Weinstock (ex-Glassjaw!) and Daud Sturdivant (empath, every band needs one) granted our wishes over the weekend while we were BBQing by dropping this little video heatrock on us. To amp the awesome, they also offered a stream of “Fuck Work”’s killer Dam-Funk remix, coming from their EP out June 22. We sense a summer mantra…

Video Premiere: Tifa, “Spell it Out”

Kingston’s Badda Badda Gals aka TNT aka Timberlee, Natalie Storm and Tifa have been blasting on the FADER megahorn since they individually released tracks on Ward 21’s Dem Gal Sittin riddim. As much as we love them as a trio, we are happy to see them breaking out individually because, do the math, that equals triple the awesome kicky dancehall. This video for Tifa’s “Spell it Out” expresses her badness: tough chatter, playful lyrics, everything pops. However, we must note that the guy with the necktie headband is the clear runner-up for star of this video.

Video Premiere: Pink Mountaintops, “While We Were Dreaming”

Wizard of rock Stephen McBean put together this super low-budget and intimate video for “While We Were Dreaming,” off Outside Love, the awesome new Pink Mountaintops album that is in record stores tomorrow. We’ve written a bunch about it, both on and off the internet, so we’ll leave you with Sam Hockley-Smith’s review of the album from FADER 61 (on newsstands tomorrow too).

Up from the depths of that one black light poster with the wizard smoking a hookah on top of a giant mushroom comes Outside Love, the third album from Stephen McBean of Black Mountain and his roster of Canadian music superstars. But this isn’t the stoner record you might assume it to be. It’s also not full of Black Mountain-style dirges. In fact, it’s not even that similar to previous Pink Mountaintops albums, which seemed more like a dude’s inner quest to figure out what he’s doing. This is an adult record by the kids who really felt Sabbath growing up and realized that music could be soft and still be good. The back cover has McBean wearing a sweater with a collared shirt, legs crossed in that way you know means he’s crushing his own penis. And yeah, I get that it’s ostensibly supposed to be poking fun at the bestselling romance novels you can buy in line at the grocery store, but you can’t fool me, Canadian Music Scene! I know this is actually about fully-grown grown ups fully growing up. “Holiday” features the chorus, Everyone I love deserves a holiday in the sun almost every day, and if that isn’t a line about being an adult in a time when, let’s be frank, being an adult really fucking sucks then I don’t know what is.

Video Premiere/Exclusive Freeload: Pterodactyl, “December”

Oh shit sneak peak! In FADER #61 (on stands very soon) we’ve got a Gen F on Pterodactyl, who we caught as they were filming the video for “December” in the creepy ass Market Hotel. We’ve always thought that place was haunted and this confirms it—only this video is happy enough that we can see it being haunted by friendly ghosts as opposed to scary ones. ANYWAY, Pterodactyl’s manic and joyful new album Worldwild (Brah Records) is available right now, and to celebrate, the dudes have linked up with Oneida for an epic release party this Saturday featuring a bunch of video work, some DJ sets and—of course—performances from Pterodactyl and Oneida. It’s only a 5-10 dollar donation, and if you buy the album you get in free, which is pretty much the best deal around. Oh yeah also, if you’re prone to seizures you might want to skip the first 30 seconds of this video, but if you’re into that kind of thing you can probably just watch this over and over until you become prone to seizures.

Video Premiere: Coathangers, “Stop Stomp Stompin”

Hi this is awesome. Heavy footed monster, Mighty Morphin Power Ranger with lightning bolt fingers and some southern garage about jerks making too much noise. The world needs more Coathangers. Ps their MySpace address is “fuckthecoathangers.”
