Audio: Whalebones, “The Beach”

When we first heard Whalebones, one of the first things we thought was that they would sound great making rough and intimate lo-fi acoustic songs. They must have been reading our minds, because just recently they hit us off with “The Beach,” which, besides sounding like an empty beach on a grey morning, also has someone blowing on a jug in the background. If there’s anything we’ve been missing in music it’s jugs. We would normally make a suggestion that the band should release a lot more of these acoustic demos, but since we already know that they are going to, we’re going to hold off and just wait patiently for that.

Whalebones Live In Seattle

What’s up NWers! We’re pretty sure it’s not uncommon to see Seattle bands play shows in Seattle, even for free. But because we’re into Whalebones and because it is FREE in a BAR we recommend that if you are around you should go check them out. They will be playing new jams at The Cha Cha (1013 E. Pike St.) at 8pm on Sunday April 13th. Free Whalebones!

Freeload: Whalebones, “Another Jungle”

Alright listen, even though we posted something linking to RCRD LBL today, we are doing it again because this is music and music is all about synergy and like wavelengths and vibes and all that good stuff. Awhile back we heard about Whalebones, and then the Ladyhawk guys were like Dudes Whalebones are awesome, so we started thinking about them again and posted a song and then the other day RCRD LBL put an exclusive song up too. WHALEBONES!

Audio: Whalebones, “Don’t You Know”

We’ve been keeping our eyes on Seattle’s Whalebones for a little while now and are actually kinda surprised that they aren’t slightly more high profile. As it stands, they are probably hand-making their albums in some dude’s backyard and like, handing them out to people on the street in exchange for real American dollars (alternately, you can buy their EP here… we guess the internet is sort of like the street). ANYWAY, check out “Don’t You Know” below, it sounds like a Harvest outtake but slightly heavier. Also on their MySpace are some other jams for download.
