Live: Dead Weather Play a Small Dark Room for the Privileged Few
- story THE FADER
Midday yesterday, Dead Weather aka Jack White and Alison Mosshart and two other less famous though still valuable folks, played a pop-up shop on Chrystie Street in Manhattan. We sent our eyes and ears to the streets, photographer Sunny Shokrae and intern extraordinaire Natalia Ciolko, out to report. More of Sunny’s photos and Natalia’s take on the wild scene the are after the jump.

Stream: The Dead Weather, Horehound LP
- story Peter Macia
In our current summer music issue, we concocted a line graph of supergroups gone wrong, and suggested The Dead Weather, comprised of Jack White (White Stripes), Alison Mosshart (The Kills), Dean Fertita (Queens of the Stone Age) and Jack Lawrence (The Raconteurs), might be an exception to the rule. We didn’t base this solely on their collective hair, but on their new album Horehound, out July 14th, which, contrary to the complacent non-jams on most supergroup albums, makes it sound like being a gigantic rock star is the most aggravating job in the world. We know for a fact that manual labor is more aggravating, but Horehound is still awesome. Hear it right now in its entirety for 24 hours on The Internet.

Video: The White Stripes, “Conquest”
- story THE FADER
Is there some way to get a royalty check from the White Stripes for this? Because we swear that when we first heard “Conquest” many months ago, we opened the window and yelled “OWW. THIS SONG SOUNDS LIKE GETTING GORED IN THE REAR BY A BULL.” Chalk it up to Creative Commons and the mind of director Diane Martel. Plus, we have since flip-flopped on “Conquest,” think it might be some kind of genre-defying genius, and don’t want to make waves against its success.
Stylee Fridays (on Monday!): White Stripes Cameras
- story THE FADER
This week The FADER fashion street team ditched their digis in favor of the new White Stripes Lomo cameras for a special on-the-street series. Besides being extraordinarily lovely looking apparates, the cameras produced pretty fancy pictures too. Super high contrast images add a little twist to every subject’s look—an intense flash of red hair here, some mystery shadows there, and a little extra soft-focus swag for our young Richard Gere look-alike. We used Jack’s collaboration set, the Holga which first launched in the 1980s although this new model has additional 2007 White stripes updates including a swirly red filter (optional). Check a few more images after the jump.
