We've been jamming Jim Jones's City Of God mixtape since the palm tree came, but it's only now that the NYC rider man's cover art got us to thinking: What's City auteur Fernando Meirelle up to?

Check the technique: the Brazilian director is dropping The Constant Gardner this fall. It's based on John LeCarre's tale of death, deception, and diplomacy in post-colonial Africa, and it's got Ralph Feinnes repressing his emotions. What more could you ask for? Well, we can think of something. Dear Santa: Meirelle/Dipset Movie! Make it so! Summer '06, the multi-plex gets purple! Grimey handheld shots of Hell Rell rolling through Harlemworld. Pretty please?

But it doesn't stop there. We've been bombarded by Kanye and Jamie Foxx's "Gold Digger" single. It's a fun jam; Jamie does the Ray Charles thing, Kanye does the sardonic complaining thing, we do the nodding our heads to the snare thing. But the hottest Kanye/Foxx collabo has to be the use of "Jesus Walks" in the trailer for the upcoming Foxx flick, Jarhead. We have officially caught feelings on this one, due in no small part to Kanye and the choir scoring images from Desert Storm (the first one.) Any film where Chris Cooper does his hard ass routine is a keeper. But this adaption of the Anthony Swofford book of the same name looks like a see-it-on-opening-night joint. We are neither checking for Jesus or Uncle Sam, and we're still all worked up over this one. Two thumbs up!

(Best of all, these trailers didn't cost $10 bucks to watch, and we didn't have a snack counter kid getting Glengarry Glen Ross on us while pitching the snack combo for another tenner. We don't need the Pretzel Bites, dog!)
