Opening Up

February 13, 2007

For those not participating in New York Arcade Fire Mania tonight- which we will not ever be referring to as NYAFM- there's another sold out show in town: the Whigs are up from Athens to support the now-all-grown-up Silverchair at Webster Hall, oddly enough. The apparent continuing popularity of Silverchair definitely makes for an interesting juxtaposition to the aforementioned New York Arcade Fire Mania, but it's seeing the Whigs for the first time in months that we're geeked on. Last time we caught up with the band was at a show in Jerz, where they trotted out a couple of ridiculously good new songs that were rhythmically spring tight and lyrically whip smart - it was the first tease of whatever their second album might be like. But before the band gets back in the schtu-schtu-schtudio, they're doing a March headlining tour of the Southeast. Check the dates after the jump.
