There's no need to be clever with titles or intros when you've just munched on a bagel a few feet from Brian Wilson and fellow Beach Boy Al Jardine banging out "God Only Knows" and "Good Vibrations" with a full band in the famed Studio A at Capitol Records. Ostensibly, the Dudes of All Dudes were there to help announce Pet Sounds as one of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and National Association of Recording Merchandisers Definitive 200 albums, but seriously, we were within hugging distance of BRIAN WILSON, and it felt like he was singing that shit directly to us, like the most dreamy prom date ever, like the most reassuring doobie-puffing uncle we've never known, like a silver-coiffed guru of awesomeness. It also dawned on us that Jeff Bridges most definitely modeled the Dude after Brian. But really, stripping away all the chatter about the Rock canon and who knows best what's best and it being an all too brief and all too jammed with old suits performance, it was still reassuring that jams are forever and nice guys can be pretty epic.
