We were in Hawaii the last time the Hold Steady played LA (boo-hoo, right?), but that show was at a venue we've come to call the Poopadour, so we're not totally crushed we missed it. Six long months later, the band finally came back to town for a sold out show at the El Rey. The band got rip city on "You Can Make Him Like You" and "How a Resurrection Really Feels," lubricated by several bottles of onstage wine. For the encore they hit the ballad double whammer of "Citrus" and "First Night," before bucking through "Your Little Hoodrat Friends" and "Killer Parties," but by that point in the night they'd been going pretty hard for almost 100 minutes. The back sweat had long since seeped through their button-ups. It was a good night.
