Dollars to Pounds: Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs

June 25, 2009

Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs are the latest additions to Greco-Roman’s increasingly insane roster of party animals, new and ancient. As the name suggests these dudes do not take themselves too seriously. Their songs are full of boisterous breaks and earth-quaking bass designed to put a smile on your face. The Jurassic duo gave us this exclusive cut and chatted to me about Bournemouth, their crazy "Ducks" video and, predictably, dinosaurs.

Your name is ridiculous.

Yes it is ridiculous, and that is a good thing in our eyes. We are pretty serious about not taking things too seriously. Writing it is definitely an effort, but there will be no regrets if autographs are required.

Tell us about your new EP.

"Moon Hits the Mirrorball" is about sticky teen prom nights that never happened, sort of like Clueless but with a dinosaur instead of Alicia Silverstone. "Sickly Child" was inspired by being ill and relying on magical Calpol in younger years. And "Bournemouth" is about Bournemouth.

What's the best dinosaur?
I used like the diplodocus but saying that now makes it look like I stalk the Major Lazer dude so I've switched to stegosaurus. Diplodocus' are fresh to death. Know what you mean though. Iguanodons are up there, for being mean with their thumbs.

What's the best dinosaur movie?

Absolutely no idea. How many Jurassic Parks are there? It’s definitely none of them. People should make more. Actually Land Before Time is about as moving as a movie can get. We will go with that.

I went to Bournemouth once. Don't plan to go back. Why did you name a song after it?

For that very reason, it's not great. But there are 2p machines on the beach and a WH Smith and stuff like that, so it's worth a visit. We've played some good parties there as well.

How did you hook up with the Greco-Roman guys?

We initially sonically wrestled at a party of theirs and then things got more serious and honestly quite disturbing. It's great that we've now done this EP with them and play lots of shows together. Nice time.

What plans do you have for the rest of the year?

Find wives mainly. But also play loads of and concentrate on helping the good people have fun times. Maybe write a protest song about something. Invest in inflatables as soon as we make mad money.

What the fuck is going on in the "Ducks" video?

Er... You could say it's a day in the life, but it's more like 1 minute 37 seconds of stuff that we do, places we hang out and sounds we make. We are going to make a new one soon.

Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs debut EP is out now on Greco-Roman Records.
