Premiere: Banjo or Freakout, “Go Ahead” MP3

January 26, 2011

If it feels like there's been a noticeable lack of bedroom folk dudes making hushed songs for snowy mornings/roasting chestnuts/etc etc, then we're maybe all not quite looking in the right place. Sure, it's not exactly the hottest shit around to sound like you spent the last year with Rejoicing in the Hands on repeat, but that'll come back. More importantly, the general aesthetic is still very much present in a lot of music today, it's just that everyone has a computer now and is able to add all sorts of extra stuff to their songs. Banjo or Freakout may be one of the chief would-have-been-making-acoustic-bedroom-jams-if-not-for-technology dudes around, as evidenced with "Go Ahead," a fully realized track from his new record, which is out at the end of next month. Previous Banjo or Freakout songs have showed flashes of promise, but never been quite as formed as "Go Ahead" is. Artistic progression!
