Stream: Wale f. Big Sean, “Slight Work” (Prod. by Diplo)

October 26, 2011

The promo train's in motion for Wale, with the release of his sophomore album, Ambition, less than a week away. It's the first for-sale solo effort from Maybach Music's 2011 recruitment class, and Wale's biggest test in the public eye since his infamously under-shipped Attention Deficit debut. So with the pressure on, the latest leak is (fittingly) the most ambitious Wale has sounded in a while. In public, though, "Slight Work" may be tough for listeners to respectfully turn up. Both Wale and Big Sean turn in excited verses, but Diplo’s beat features arguably the most asshole-ish sample in recent memory, 75% built around a police siren. In what context is that what you want to hear? In the car? No. Smoking drugs? Smoosh room? No to maybe. It's abrasive, but it slaps undeniably. Diplo promised to record a dance video—we'll keep you posted.
