Video: Darq E Freaker f. Danny Brown, “Blueberry (Pills & Cocaine)”

April 30, 2012

The first day I met Danny Brown at home, reporting for his cover story in FADER #78, was the same day Dizzee Rascal released his DirteeTV.com mixtape, and one of my first notes was Brown shouting out one of the tape's stars: "Footsie is the shit! Footsie is that nigga!" Brown's general rap delivery and the way he folds hooks into his songs shows a connoisseurship of grime, and he's a known fan of British rap—he once told Noz that Dizzee was his Beatles, and, before rapping over a Joker beat for Pitchfork last December, spoke of his respect for UK producer/vocalist Darq E Freaker. It's just one song, but this collaboration, as premiered by Noisey, feels almost like a relief, the final arrival of something Brown's basically built for: wreaking havoc in London. The full single is out now, streaming below and released by Southern Hospitality, also features incredible remixes by Sinden and 5kinandbone5, Star Slinger and Morris.
