The Things I Carry: Jeremih

We always like to know what some of our favorite artists carry in their purses (and man-purses)—the essential items that they need for touring or subway rides, the Grammys or any other thing that they might be doing these days, which is why we’ve made it a regular column on the site.

Jeremih, the man behind 2012's most surprising, exciting and sexy free album, stopped by FADER offices just before winter break. He tossed off stories about Def Jam's wild holiday party and his newborn son; a full video interview is coming soon. Before heading back to the studio to work on songs for a 2013 Def Jam full length, he emptied his backpack, revealing a collection of new dad/touring essentials: teething rings, playing cards (Spades is his game), a goofy hat for Chicago winters and a partly-consumed roll of Smarties. What's on top of his pile of cash may look like a blunt wrap, but it's just a travel toothbrush.
