Summer Serums: Bobbi Brown Beach Body Scrub

July 10, 2013

Style encompasses more than just the clothes on our backs and the fly kicks on our feet. In Summer Serums, our new column, we shout out the grooming products that keep us fresh and make getting through the dog days of summer possible. This week, Deidre looks at Bobbi Brown's Beach Body Scrub.

I returned to work this Monday after a lackluster five-day staycation. Moored in the Brooklyn by my own poor scheduling and inflated airline prices, I didn't see an inch of a beach, a picturesque shoreline—shit, I didn't even jump under a gushing fire hydrant. I sat in front of my air conditioner, hung out in the park and party hopped at night after the sweltering heat subsided. Despite the lack of aquatic summer activities, during my staycation I religiously exfoliated, savoring an extra five minutes in the shower as I slathered on Bobbi Brown's Beach body scrub. Far from the cheap scrubs of my past, which ranged from super oily to gritty to slightly painful, Brown's rich mix of orange peel, pumice bits and shea butter exfoliate gently. It moisturizes, too, enough to render my usual cocoa butter regimen unnecessary. If my initial desires for this July 4th weekend—swimming, finding love in a hopeless place—did not pan out, at least this body scrub didn't let me down. At one point my tipsy homegirl, reaching for our rapidly diminishing bottle of Hennessy, brushed against my leg and complimented its softness. That moment was more innocent and sisterly than the sexy July 4th makeout session I'd wished for, but I'll take it.
