Who's next for iLoveMakonnen? That'd be Rome Fortune, a fellow Atlanta eccentric who claims an expansive crew of friends and collaborators. The two have tagged up for a song called "FriendsMaybe," the latest single to be released from Fortune's upcoming Small VVorld EP (previously: "Workin Gal", which was produced by suicideyear). It's a bouncy, helium-warped requiem for a relationship strained by trust issues: I don't wear a chain because assumptions is something, Fortune raps. Makonnen takes the hook, and Money Karlo produces.
Relatedly, Awful Records affiliate Ethereal has released a spaced-out song called "Drop [That Ass On The Ground Like Some Change]," which features both Fortune and his "Payin For It" collaborator Relly Jade. It's not the booty shaking party song it's title might suggest; rather, as FADER's Duncan Cooper puts it, it's evidence that Atlanta's Mushroom Era is very real. Once you've gone up with "FriendsMaybe", come down on this.
