FADER Mix: Qrion

"Every Square Inch," Qrion's song with Ryan Hemsworth, just sashayed its way into FADER's 116 Best Tracks of 2014, which makes sense because we've been obsessed with it all year, featuring the track in a story about favorite collaborations and in Hemsworth's own account of his first trip to Japan. Honestly, some part of Qrion's appeal is that her name is Qrion, but most of it's that this Japanese producer has turned out some of the prettiest dance music of the year—or, not dance music, necessarily, just like beats to soundtrack acorns falling and sprouting. (Dream collab: Cuushe and Qrion. Flau, can you make this happen?) As expected, her FADER mix is a godsend, the best case scenario for when ambient strings and drum & bass meet. Deep and sweet. I want to watch every movie that's dialogue is sampled here. I'm glad FADER mixes exist.

Where are you right now? I'm at the cafe near by my hometown. I am surrounded by many Chinese tourists. They are drinking coffee, eating sandwiches. It looks like they are having fun.

What do you want people to feel when they listen to this mix? When I made it, I became emotional because I mixed many of my favorite songs, which are full of memories. If you feel calm and relaxed, I'll be very happy.

You have remixed a few North American artists lately—Porter Robinson, Ryan Hemsworth, Ricky Eat Acid. Do you plan on coming to the U.S. to play any shows next year? I really would like to go U.S. and Canada and meet people who listen to my music. I have no idea how to plan a world tour because I don't have any label contracts at present, and have no support for it. If you have a piece of advice or any offer to give me a chance, please let me know, I'd be really happy to come! I wait you forever <3

What is your favorite dish to cook and how do you make it? I like making Kakiage かき揚げ (a mixture of vegetable and shrimp tempura.) Basically we use flour, water, shrimp (and squid) and some vegetables, like onions and carrot, but you can add other things and make it to suit your taste. We mix all of these, fry in oil, put special source (usually noodle soup), and eat with rice. It's very easy and delicious <3 Please try it.
