Shamir Releases Dizzying New Video For “Darker”
His highly-anticipated debut is due later this month.
Shamir continues to bounce between extremes in a way that's remarkable for a young singer, putting out uptempo dancefloor records one moment and country-tinged weepers the next. Today he released the video for "Darker," a string-heavy number that evokes mid-80s Prince ballads. The clip finds the singer alone in the middle of the Joshua Tree desert and surrounded by stunning vistas. Director Anthony Sylvester used drones to give the video an expansive feel that matches Shamir's grand, pleading chorus: it doesn't get darker, unless you expect it to / it's just getting harder to contain the truth. Read FADER's Gen F profile of Shamir and look for more uncontainable truth on his debut album, Ratchet, May 19th.
