Faceless London trio RITUAL have so far blazed a small trail for themselves with the voices of others, including a collaboration with rising Newbury singer-songwriter Frances and a verse from Bishop Nehru. But "Instinct" is a pop song, pure and simple, sung in their own voices; and, from its bubbling chorus to its spacious, soul-baring verses, it's the kind that gets right under your skin. "'Instinct' is the warmest record we've written," the band told The FADER over email. "It has a nostalgic nod to soul and UK garage in the production, and as a song it's about the most uplifting of natural human instincts—to love and to be loved.” It doesn't get much purer or simpler than that.
