Natalie Cole passed away yesterday at Cedar Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles. According to The Hollywood Reporter, a publicist said the singer suffered "complications from ongoing health issues." She was 65 years old.
"It is with heavy hearts that we bring to you all the news of our Mother and sister's passing," said Cole's family in a statement. "Natalie fought a fierce, courageous battle, dying how she lived... with dignity, strength and honor. Our beloved Mother and sister will be greatly missed and remain UNFORGETTABLE in our hearts forever."
Cole was the daughter of the great jazz vocalist/keyboard player Nat King Cole. In the second half of the '70s, she scored numerous hits on the R&B charts. "This Will Be," "I've Got Love On My Mind," and "Our Love" also crossed over to become top ten pop hits.
Musicians from a wide variety of genres and several generations remembered the singer on social media today.
