Toro y Moi has gone through multiple iterations, physically and sonically. His boundless creativity has allowed him to shapeshift within his own discography, adopting the moniker Les Sins, as well as working with other artists like the Mattson 2 and Travis Scott. And with his newest album, Outer Peace, he's arguably fully bounced back from his near-fatal car crash a few years prior.

While in NYC to promote his sixth album, Chaz stopped by to tell The FADER about his early love for The Beach Boys — which is attributed to his dad, an appreciation for the lighthearted side of skate videos, the struggle of having an afro at a fast food restaurant, the endearing flaws of his '91 Chevy station wagon, and the visual appeal in the artwork for The Beatles' Yellow Submarine and The Ohio Players' albums. He closes out this episode of First Times by sketching out what was going on in his head when he listened to J Dilla's Donuts.
