So, it happened. Seventeen weeks and countless reiterations later, Lil Nas X has officially broken the record for the longest running number one hit of all time on the Billboard Hot 100. The record was previously tied between Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee's "Despacito," and Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men's "One Sweet Day." Lil Nas X's debut single initially landed at the top of the chart back in April, shortly after Billboard had removed it from the Hot Country chart.

In the time since, "Old Town Road" has seen remixes with Billy Ray Cyrus, Young Thug and Mason Ramsey, and RM (of BTS). Earlier this month, the single went diamond, joining an elite pantheon of just a handful of other songs to ever do so —  and the first since Elton John's "Candle In The Wind" to achieve the certification while at the top of the Billboard Hot 100.
