Nebuchadnezzar: A Kanye West Opera was first announced last week. It featured West’s Sunday Service choir and was directed by the rapper’s frequent collaborator Vanessa Beecroft. It arrived earlier this evening as the latest chapter in West’s recent pivot towards making non-secular music that started with his latest studio album, Jesus Is King. Shortly after Nebuchadnezzar was announced, West also announced a sequel to Jesus Is King featuring Dr. Dre.

Wes attained mainstream success mid-last year when his viral single “Mo Bamba” reached No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100. Since then, he has been plagued with controversy, with ex-girlfriend, singer Justine Skye, accusing him of domestic abuse and taking out a restraining order against him due to alleged stalking. Wes did not face charges over the accusations due to a “lack of evidence.”
