Desire Marea’s love is deeper than lust in his “You Think I’m Horny” video

The South African FAKA artist is making music for the displaced.

December 19, 2019

As a member of the black queer art collective FAKA, Desire Marea is breaking out as a solo artist with his new video "You Think I'm Horny." The song is a mesh of techno and dramatic singing in the vein of FKA Twigs. Desire Marea does his best to express his love for someone that goes beyond just being physical. SunSunSun co-produced the song with Desire Marea and Nonku Phiri contributed vocal production and backing vocals.

The video, directed by Bubblegumclub's Jamal Nxedlana, has a dark palette as Desire wanders the street after a lonely night of drinking at the club. He ends up showing his internal struggle with interpretive dancing in a room. The choreography was provided by Bradley Sekiti.

In an email, Desire explained the importance of the message in the song: "This is a reflection of my romantic displacement in a city that’s home to the displacement of many."
