Ya Ya Hey
- story THE FADER
Our girl Maya was the blazing SXSW ticket this year, with a handfull of crazily hot shows on her schedule…including one this past afternoon at our house. Some minor technical dificulties gave way to a damn near transcendent stage moment: “Sunshowers” sung acapella, gradually reaching a crescendo with the crowd beatboxing atop Diplo’s impromptu scratch beats on the turntable. Then homie dropped dead prez’s “Hip Hop” and shit got all pandemonium-like.
There were a bunch of other great performances as well – Tom Vek, Vic Chestnut, Saul Williams and more. Each set was dope in its own way, but most awesome of all was the overall vibe in the crowd, a shared feeling that the wyle-out cross-genre lineup was the funnest thing going on in all of Austin. Damn skippy.
