Noticeably Aroused
- story THE FADER
The “Willy Nelson” tourbus outside Irving Plaza this past Saturday alerted us to the fact that Josh Rouse was back in town. About time.
Now that he’s an expat Spaniard, the retellings of his exploits on U.S. soil have an extra heft to them. Between lassoing in some sexy throwbacks from 1972 and basking in newer, countri-fused material Saturday, Rouse mentioned a gig in Woodstock, N.Y. a couple nights before. “It was interesting,” he said. “Like a Robert Altman film.” We know he wasn’t talking M*A*S*H or even Nashville (album title pun intended, yar har). But, come on ever-enigmatic JR, is it Gosford Park?
Many of the new Nashville numbers got numerous couples in the audience swaying. Gin giving us legs, we kept trying to catch a glance, but Rouse had them all in the palm of his outstretched hand. Every lusty female in the house sang along while Rouse mentioned “feeling sexual.” Word.
