Another early weeknight evening, another Amoeba instore.
That was our thinking last night as we headed towards Sunset and Ivar for Spoon's free performance, but after the near-capacity high school pandemoniosty of last month's Hot Hot Heat acoustic set, we got there early and found a spot by all the Bobby Darins CDs in the Oldies section.
Then a little past seven, the band hit the stage and long-sleeve button-upped frontman Britt Daniel looked out at the crowd that had swelled through the stacks all the back to Recent Rock Arrivals and said, “Wow, this is like a show.”
Then the band plugged in and killed it like it was a show.
Celebrating (or promoting) the release of their new album Gimme Fiction - which was released one day earlier-they kicked it off with awesome album opener “The Beast And Dragon, Adored” and smoked through a forty minute set of old songs and new songs until they got to “Jonathon Fisk” from Kill The Moonlight - which was just as awesome as how they started things, but in a completely different way.
