Week In/Out
- story THE FADER
Some highlights from the last week in the internets: MTV Awards chuckles, Lady Sov freestyles, and Tamale Kingpins.
But it’s the weekend, so look forward, not back! It’s a three-day jumpoff this go round, so what to do? The biggest happening this weekend is in El Lay, where Arthur Magazine will be hosting its first ever ArthurFest. Sunday sees sets from the OG’s of this thrift rock game, Sonic Youth and Sleater-Kinney, as well as Japanese noisefathers Merzbow, Magik Markers, Six Organs of Admittance, and bluesy bros the Black Keys.
Monday check for Spoon, Comets on Fire, Cat Power, Earth, Yoko Ono, Olivia Tremor Control and thunderdrone experts Sunn. Are you not entertained?!
One would think all the indie rocking musicians in the world are gonna be in the city of angels this weekend. But one would be wrong! More events all over the place after the jump.
The hysterically emotional pastiche-folk of Xiu Xiu hits the Bowery Ballroom in New York on Friday, while Sons & Daughters play the Mercury Lounge around the corner. Meanwhile, Bay Area friends can peep the Art And Soul Festival Oakland which will feature everyone from Pinback to Roy Ayres. Everybody loves the sunshine, no?
Don’t feel left out, Chi-town friends. There may not be any flossing festivals in your town this week, but you can always go check the rock doc. Kill Your Idols at the Gene Siskel Film Center. The no-wave documentary features interviews with Thurston Moore, Karen O, and more. Back to the future!
