A little while ago we told you about our Tolkien-free experience of hearing the return of the king. We ain’t talking about Aragorn (apologies for the Shire content, kids), we’re speaking of the King Of The South, TI, and his forthcoming album, The King. The Rubberband Man continues to tinker with his fourth LP, but apparently the streets (and when we say streets we mean file sharing networks) could not wait until the scheduled March release date, and a few weeks back, many of the tracks we heard leaked out. Crafty businessman that he is, the Grand Hustle chief has put a smattering of those tracks on this official mix with homie DJ Drama, The Leak.

While this disc isn’t quite up to the standard set by Drama and TIP’s classic Down With The King collection (upon which TI said some really hurtful stuff about Lil Flip), it has more than enough joints, jams, heatrocks and burners. We’re still really feeling the cuts we were really feeling at the listening sesh (”Drug Related”, “Fresh”, “Front Back Side To Side”) and there’s also a nice take on the “Intro” beat from Jay-Z’s Roc La Familia album. For those of you who can’t wait for another dose of A-Town royalty, this should do the trick.
