Oh K

On his first visit to New York City, Brazilian rocker/beatmaker Edu K stopped by the office to hit us with a copy of his new album Frenetiko. The longtime frontman's first solo album is a mix of baile funk and real blatant rock riffs - think 2 Live Crew's Van Halen-sampling "Fuck Shop" or the Dust Brothers' early work with Tone Loc. Lead single "Popozuda Rock N Roll" caught shine off Coke commercials in Germany and a Diplo remix, and K hopes the follow up "Sex-O-Matic" (video here) will bring his "baile punk" sound to even more people. But even if it doesn't, dude is psyched just to be here, and right before he left to hit up Canal Street for new threads, Edu K gave us something to be excited about, too - his next project is producing a full LP for female baile MC Deize (pronounced "Daisy") Tigrona, who's heater "Injecao" was the inspiration and sample source for MIA's "Bucky Done Gun" (Check the two ladies onstage together in Rio here). Ya ya hey!
