Last night some intrepid staffers hit up NYC’s Canal Room to see Lil Wayne and Baby…who decided not to perform. Instead, there was a tight mini-set from Pharoahe Monch (smokingly on-point backup singers, “Simon Says,” etc) and an unexpected on-stage appearance by Irv Gotti, who was loudly singing the praises (”She’s the motherfucking shit!”) of new Inc signing Vanessa Carlton. Yes, you read that correctly, Vanessa Carlton is signed to The Inc. In a weird way, it fits – the current Lloyd single rips off Spandau Ballet’s “True” for crying out loud – and we’re certainly going to pay attention to how this hand plays out for all concerned. We also would like to hear Vanessa play the riff from Cadillac Tah’s “Pov City Anthem” on piano. And find out what Charli Baltimore thinks about the whole thing. MURDAAAH!
