There’s more than a couple points of interest in this new Lil Wayne freestyle over TI’s “Top Back.” It’s a teaser leak off the sure to smash Drought 3 mixtape. It’s a reunion of sorts between Wayne and ex-Cash Money beat wizard Mannie Fresh (the significance of which is not lost on Weezy F, who mentions it in the intro). It adds a new wrinkle to the current beef/alliance rap landscape, seeing as how Wayne says of TI, “That is my brother, ladies and gentlemen, and he IS the king, bitch. Don’t get that shit twisted. And me? I am the best rapper alive.” But most importantly, it’s three minutes of Lil Wayne on fire like an MJ Pepsi perm, stuttering up his timing with currently unparalleled style, and warping his enunciation like a fucking funhouse mirror. MUSIC IS AWESOME.
