Trumpets Please

Ok let’s get this out of the way: USDA’s Cold Summer, out next Tuesday, pretty much sounds exactly like the “Authorized Mixtape” it’s billed as. No real singles or surprises, just 14 tracks of meat and potatoes gangsta rap. However, the synth work of Arnaz “The Nazty One” Smith, an in-house CTE producer making his big debut with four tracks on the disc, is a definite highlight. He takes the Shawty Redd/DJ Toomp “trap fanfare” approach to new synthetic extremes, and we are fucking with it! Here’s the full version of the Nazty One-produced “Corporate Thuggin” that we previewed a snippet of earlier.
