We’ve been resisting the lures of Kat DeLuna and Elephant Man’s “Whine Up” – a Top 40 mash of uptempo dancehall and untz untz untz techno – all summer. When there’s so many GOOD riddims out in the world, why support a mediocre radio version? (Relatedly: is Sean Kingston the black Matisyahu? Should we save this line of thought for another blog post?) Kat’s follow-up single “Am I Dreaming” follows a similar hybrid approach, but we’re not bellyaching cause this time she gets it right, melding the awesome plinkety plink guitars of bachata on to a prom-night pop banger.
