Saul Williams and Trent Reznor Offer New Album As Free Download

The Inevitable Rise And Liberation Of Niggy Tardust cover

Starting at 10am today (October 25), anyone with access to a computer can pre-register at SaulWilliams.com to receive Saul's new album, The Inevitable Rise And Liberation Of NiggyTardust! (wow), produced entirely by Trent Reznor of NIN, for free on its October 31st release date. Inspired by Radiohead's recent internet coup for In Rainbows, Saul and Trent agreed to make the album available as a DRM-free download through FADERlabel, but one-upped Radiohead by offering it in the bitrate of choice for free (192kbps) or a $5 donation to the artist (320kbps or FLAC). So all the arguments over In Rainbows' digital quality and all the debate over whether you are a good or bad person based on how much you paid are eliminated—dudes just want the album to be heard. If you like it, feel free to give them your money, or take the 192kbps version for nada. Someone will probably come along and improve on Saul and Trent's idea, but for now we think it's pretty cool. As for the music, find out for yourself.
