Way out in Woodhaven, Queens, in the same building that many bar scenes from Goodfellas were filmed, Morgan Geist has just moved into a new studio. We visited him there to discuss his new solo album, Double Night Time, which he made with some vocal assistance from Jeremy Greenspan of Junior Boys. Geist, half of production and DJ duo Metro Area, is certainly familiar with what makes positive electronic music, but for Double Night Time he took that electronic charge and lulled it, not by creating anything downtempo or overly sappy, but by injecting the music with just a tiny bit of pain. He talks about making the album, pop music and a lot of expensive old equipment.
