Freeload: Tara Jane O’Neil, “Drowning”
- story THE FADER
Some of us have never been to Portland. We’ve consistently enjoyed—or maybe appreciated is a better word—the city’s artistic output, but why does everything feel like damp dirt? That doesn’t necessarily have to be a bad thing, don’t people pay lots of money to have it rubbed all over their body at spas? Tara Jane O’Neil’s “Drowning,” from her ninety-billionth release, May’s A Way’s Away has a similar feel of warm despair. Wait a minute, is this what the Indigo Girls sound like? Maybe we should check that out. Were they from Portland? Life is so different far away.
