Freeload: Mata, “Shine”

In his continuing quest for dominance of the entire rap industry, ubiquitous producer Zaytoven is back with another song, this time collaborating with Huntsville’s Mata, who we wrote about as part of the Paper Route Recordz story from FADER 51. We’ve enjoyed Mata’s verses on posse cuts, but this is the first entirely solo track that’s lived up to the promise he’s shown when his verse is only one of many. Mainly it’s his decision to approach the song in an eerily calm monotone, rage simmering just under the surface, vaguely threatening when paired with the warped pitch of Zaytoven’s budget keys.
