Thrintage: Out of the Closet

June 25, 2009

Every other Thursday, FADER style contributor Bethany Cosentino crosses boroughs, counties and states to find us fine thrifted and vintage pieces on the cheap for her column, Thrintage. This week in L.A. she checked out Out of the Closet. Read her thoughts and peep the steals after the jump.

It’s officially summer in L.A. and that means two things: high school kids are everywhere, and tank tops have become necessary. One way to escape screaming teens is by hiding out in unsuspecting thrift stores searching for the perfect tank. This Thrintage I got super lucky when my escape route led me to Out of the Closet where there were about three people in the store, making for a very relaxing thrifting trip. Plus, I found not one but two amazing tanks that'll become staples in all my summer ensembles.

Out of the Closet is super tucked away and seems like it may be an undiscovered treasure in the lot of L.A. thrift stores. Though their prices are a bit on the steep side, they definitely have a great selection of goods in the store. Right off the bat I spotted the two tank tops right next to each other on the rack, picked them up and was super psyched by how thin and soft they both were. Both tops are a cropped style, making them a perfect match for the vintage high-waisted floral skirt I found. They will also go great with the pair of high-waisted cigarette legged Levi’s that I discovered hiding in the back of the store. Aside from the dream tanks, there was a really cute vintage shirt with a dog silk screened on the front as well as an awesome knitted piece that'll look killer over a bikini top and some leggings. I guess the next time I need to escape the teen rampage I'll throw on one of my new looks and hit a secluded beach.
