Contest: Win Tickets to See Bon Iver Perform in a Cemetery at Sunrise

This show is going to be amazing. On September 27th, Bon Iver will be performing at the Hollywood Forever cemetery in Los Angeles at sunrise (also known as right around 6am). Here’s the awesome part: doors are at midnight, leaving you plenty of time to get a good spot, be a little weirded out that you’re in a cemetery at night, get over it and then feel really good about Bon Iver waking the dead and also that you get a free breakfast included in the cost of the ticket. If we were in LA and more selfish, we would be waiting in line already with these tickets, but we’re not, so let us know how bad you want to go in the comments of this post (remember to use your actual email address) and we’ll pick a lucky winner. If you’re concerned about leaving it to chance you can always pre-order tickets here.

Bon Iver? My favourite cemetary? At dawn? This sounds like THE most epic show this year and I NEED to be there!!

  2. Edwin Zuniga Says:

You mean I get the chance to be in a cemetery after dark and NOT have security chase me out? Sign me up!

  3. Christopher Smith Says:

wow! this sounds so cool! i wanna go…plus Bon Iver performing in a cemetery would be so trippy!

  4. Melissa Weisman Says:

Wow, I actually got a comment in the top 10. Can I go too? I’m far but in the mood for a roadtrip.

  5. haejung kim Says:

    coolio.

  6. af Says:

woah man.i need to be there for sure. i’ll blow you for tix. (ok, i won’t, i mean, i have some self respect… but i will find someone to do it) is that desperate enough for you? jeez.

  7. Summer Says:

bon iver. cemetery. sunrise. i’ve been waiting my whole life for this.

  8. Holly McKee-Clark Says:

    Dear Fader:

I need to go to this concert. I need it like tuna needs fish sandwiches; need it like Natalia needs her Gold Fish Brand lunchbox; need it like people in L.A. need to walk more; like Michael needs a resting place; like that girl on her cell phone needs to shut the hell up and watch the road. I need it like all girls named Emma everywhere need to hear the a cappella version of “For Emma, Forever Ago,” and thank the universe for their connection to that devastating song. Also, I’m actually in L.A. and know where the cemetery is…

    Sincerely,

    Not-Named-Emma

  9. Eric Says:

Holy amazing. What a unique and fitting way to take in Justin’s music. When did they announce this?

Bearded rugged soul singer in a cemetery > Bearded rugged soul singer in a music hall

  10. Nancy D. Says:

    Glorious! I’ll bring the bacon!

  11. Caroline Says:

creepy in the very best way.

  12. Michele R Says:

Wow, this is one of the most amazing things I have ever heard of… What a perfect setting, an eerie cemetery at sunrise with the haunting sounds of Bon Iver bringing in the day. Something to be seen for sure!

  13. sam Says:

is he playing inside at the lodge or outside?

  14. Sarah T Says:

Ahh! I would sit in a cemetery for a week if it meant I could see this show. My birthday is the week before and I have been moping for the past several days over not getting tickets to his Sept 25th show at the Wiltern. Vernon’s albums have been my soundtracks for the last several months, getting me through some tough times. It’s a cheaper form of therapy, if you will. ;) I MUST see this show!! I live just down the street, too, so really, it’s perfect!

  15. dan Says:

late September early morn…the dappled dew blankets cold marble and concrete…mist mingles with spirits drifting along the paths…the caw of a solitary crow cracks the sky…silence…the sky dilutes from ebony to deep blue to pale…the sun rolls up from the line of perspective in the distance…day has begun

and it would be so beautiful to have Bon Iver as the soundtrack for that experience. Please please let me be there!

  16. KimberlyPye Says:

Pick me! Pick me! Sounds a little creepy and a lot of fun!

  17. VinnieLongobardo Says:

I want to help Bon Iver wake the dead in the cemetery that Johnny Ramone is buried in!

  18. shaun christie Says:

I really have to go to this show because I saw the Tallest Man On Earth play there in December and I took my wife along to it. I was so enthralled by the music and by the spooky and beautifully haunting surroundings that I was totally captivated.

I was so captivated that I forgot about my wife and left without her. I am pretty sure she still wanders the cemetery looking for me but I haven’t had a chance to get back there yet. So I would like to go so i can be reunited with my wife. And reunited with beautiful music in a unique atmosphere.

    Lots of love

  19. mike cirillo Says:

Love to win these tickets. It seems impossible to buy Bon Iver tickets nowadays. Says a lot for his recent popularity. You go, Bon!

  20. Andy Says:

If I don’t win I’ll cry like a little baby.

  21. Pauline Says:

When I discovered Bon Iver’s “For Emma, Forever Ago” my little brother Sammy had just been shot and killed. As you can imagine this was a very difficult time for me and mine ,but I did not fall apart. I held it together and cooked and cleaned and answered the phone… i never left my mothers house, but i had a eulogy to write.
So, i snuck out one night and, took off to this beautiful church down the street and proceeded to cry myself good and sick. Bon Iver’s, ‘Skinny Love’ will always be the song that takes me back to that place of alone, and lose, and I’m just so grateful. Grateful that there is beauty in even the most ugly of circumstances.
Music can effect you so viscerally. The right artiest, or song when you need it can get inside of you and take a hold, and see you through that heart break, that lose, the right track can make you smile even when all you want to do is fall apart.
“I told you to be patient
I told you to be fine
I told you to be balanced
I told you to be kind
Now all your love is wasted?
Then who the hell was I?
Now I’m breaking at the britches
And at the end of all your lines
    Who will love you?
    Who will fight?
    Who will fall far behind?”

I’d love to see Bon Iver live, i’d love to come full circle and just be happy despite whatever life throws at me. I have music, i have life, i have love.
Thank you for the chance to win tickets.

  22. Dan Says:

Sounds awesome. If I don’t win these I’ll be paying for tickets myself.

  23. Murph Says:

I’d totally like to go to this! Sounds awesome.

  24. Pauline Says:

I’d love to take my sister here for her birthday for some ghost hunting and beautiful music. We will send in photo proof of some spirits wandering around :)

  25. deborah Says:

I really really really want to see Bon Iver, especially at dawn in a cemetery, BUT

if she’s telling the truth (and I suspect she is), and there’s any justice in the world, then #21 must win.

  26. Shannon Says:

    Sell cleverness; purchase some wonder
Or some autumn or trust or some thunder
    Or some music at dawn
    On an uncommon lawn
Filled with people both over and under

  27. Rebecca Says:

for all the jews in the house (myself included): spending the night in a cemetery the day before yom kippur seems like a VERY effective way to “encourage” some last-minute atoning. now, i know that isn’t exactly what grandma had in mind, but whatever does the trick, right?

  28. Kenley Neufeld Says:

What an intriguing concept. A concert in a cemetery. I’ve seen well over a thousands bands in dozens of different venues but I don’t think the cemetery has been one of them. It would have been perfect for the Residents.

We’ve only recently discovered Bon Iver and we love his music. Flume is a great song.

Do you think 41 is too old to stay up all night in a cemetery?

I’ve bookmarked your sight, grabbed the RSS feed for contests, and I’ll be back again. I’d love to see this show courtesy of Fader.

    Peace.

  29. parker h Says:

This sounds too good to be true. Bon Iver playing his arresting music during the most serene part of the day. Sunrise has the most beautiful light that casts the most peaceful ambiance over anyone who experiences it, and having Justin and Co. serenade me during said time would be the most captivating thing I could ever experience.

  30. RJ Says:

    Dear Fader…
I was front row at Bon Iver’s Outside Lands performance in 08. This guy has some tasty tunes. I think everyone should experience this guy live so if you give the tickets to someone else I will understand. However, my buddy (who I nicknamed the Loris for his nocturnal stylings), the very friend who introduced me to Skinny Love in 2007 before For Emma came out, has never seen Bon Iver. This…is a crime and he should get to go. If I benefit from being the person that takes him, so be it.

  31. Joshua Says:

whats not to like about this. going to see a show in the morning, getting free breakfast and its at a cemetery. its a goth kids wet dream but the only catch is its made for indie kids. i want this. it will fullfil my high school dreams when i used to listen to cradle of filith.

  32. Dan Says:

I was going to propose to my girlfriend at the Bon Iver show at the Wiltern on the 25th of September with the text message screen there, but the show is all sold out. It turns out that she loves both indie music and cemeteries, so please help me out. Thanks. It’ll make a great story for our kids one day.

  33. labraji Says:

i’m tired of being unemployed in NYC, everyone basically wants you to work for free. if you graduated this year, you’re probably trying to find a temp job with a college degree. winning this ticket would be my lost summer vacation! i need a break from picking up scraps from job sites.

  34. Andy Says:

Nice! I would really love these tickets. I can promise that I’ll travel there in the ‘greenest’ way possible, as I live right by the cemetary. And I’m an insomniac, so sunrise sounds like a great time for a concert. Plus, I’m from WI, just like Bon Iver. Just thought I’d throw that in too.

    Thanks

  35. Lauren Rios Says:

Wow! I was seriously bummed when I found out that his show at the Wiltern was sold out but than came across another one of his shows that was in CA. This sounds absolutely AMAZCULAR. I am most definitely going! I’ve been to many shows/concerts but this is by far the most amazingly unique show I’ve heard of.

  36. michael archuleta Says:

This sounds like the most epic, creepy, beautiful, cold, dark, amazing show ever! I would fly out to see this!

  37. Evan Friedman Says:

I was thinking about faking my own death, sealing myself in a casket with an oxygen tank, and leaving in my will that I want to be buried in Hollywood Forever on Sept 21 (leaving myself a week to dig my way out). But alas, The Fader makes it easier to see Bon Iver!

  38. Matthew Easton Says:

I look at it like this. I will buy my tickets whether i win them or not. I would prefer to win, but only to put the $57.75 for two tickets toward redbull, cereal and milk…..probably just donuts, contribute the most to the breakfast and celebration. Win/Win.

  39. Michelle Says:

i can die happy after this, and as luck would have it i will be in the perfect place for such a situation

  40. Prudence Brady Says:

Flume is by far my favorite song… this would be so awesome! thanks for the consideration. :)

  41. Mark Russell Says:

It’s close to midnight (gates about to open) and something amazing’s lurking in the dark
Under the moonlight, you see a sight that almost stops your heart (Bon Iver)
You try to scream but Bon Iver takes the sound before you make it
You start to freeze as Bon Iver looks you right between the eyes
    You’re paralyzed

‘Cause this is thriller, thriller night
And no one’s gonna save you from Bon Iver playing super early
You know it’s thriller, thriller night
You’re fighting for your life inside a killer, thriller tonight

  42. taylor Says:

awesome! I would love to be there!

  43. Jazmine Says:

I am just mind-freaked at how incredibly awesome this show will be. All of the components will entail a memorable day for me. I want to experience this so badly!

  44. aiesha Says:

thats the craziest thing ive never heard, and eerily intriguing at the same time.
Id love to experience a concert in a cemetery at midnight! pick me!

  45. Titus Says:

Bon Iver is amazing. When things are down, his atmospheric sound is the absolute cure-all. And when things are looking up, his sound only accentuates good vibes. I’m a poor intern, so of course I’m going to shoot for free tickets, but 25 bucks really is not that bad for the overall experience.

  46. Sophie Says:

    ARE YOU KIDDING ME~`!~!!!!
WHO WOULDN’T ENTER THIS CONTEST. I WOULD OF COURSE PAY TO SEE BON IVER AND SUPPORT THEM BUT MY PARENTS WOULD BE A LOT MORE CONVINCED TO LET ME GO IF I HAD SOME FREEE TICKZZZ. I DON’T KNOW HOW YOU’RE CHOOSING THE WINNERS OF THIS SO I’VE WRITTEN IN COMPLETE CAPITAL LETTERS TO GRAB YOUR ATTENTION. PLEASE DO ME THE HONOR OF HOOKIN’ ME UP WITH SOME FREE BON IVER TICKETS. THANKS THEFADER.COM

    MUCH APPRECIATED

  47. Robin Says:

Me and my girlfriend will travel trough california and around that date we are in LA.
Two days later we will fly back to belgium. It Would be fucking increadible to whitness this event!!

  48. Alexandra Says:

It’s my birthdayyyyyyy. And Bon Iver is so goooood.

  49. onnie Says:

My cousin has mentioned this event a few times…..I would so love to surprise her with free tix!! She’s currently out of work, as so many are these days. And how cool would it be to be in a cemetery at the wee hours of the night and……..to see the sunrise and awaken the day with a live perfomance from Bon Iver!! The vibe of the peeps that will attend this will be cool to experience!

  50. quinn Says:

Count me in. This definitely seems like a show someone would not forget.

  51. Kathryn Says:

I have seen movies at the cemetery, but not a concert. When i found out who was playing I flipped my lid. An Epic musician full of lyrical bliss and a cemetery truly beautiful. It is bound to be one of the best times in my life!!!!

  52. Will Says:

Countless days and nights have been spent immersed in the music of Bon Iver.. he’s carried me through so many milestones in my life, each of his songs bringing back a specific memory of heartbreak, highpoints, romanticism, depression, euphoria, numbness, relaxtion. I could go on for hours but i won’t. I’m writing this post at 5 am not because i awoke early, but because i’ve been recording youtube covers of his songs skinny love, blood bank, flume, for emma, etc, all night and stumbled across this post after watching some of his street performances. I had heard from a friend this show was free and had it marked on my calendar since last month, but i’m finding out tonight that this isn’t the case. Convincing my parents to let me venture off to a graveyard an hour away at midnight is going to be tough but winning the tickets free would help me out immensely. $25 isn’t too much to scrounge together for most people, but i can tell you that i will be indefinitely grateful to you, dear fader, if i win these tickets. thank you for the opportunity, pleeease consider me<3

  53. lauren Says:

went to buy a ticket just now and they’re sold out. i’d love to see this wisconsin fellow play in a cemetery at sunrise–just moved from madison a couple months ago. thanks in advance.

  54. Amanda Wulwick Says:

Bon Iver is unbelievable! This show would be an amazing experience. I’m sure this performance is gong to be haunting and life changing. I’m so excited for the chance to win! :) Cheers!

  55. Michael Barold Says:

Tasha Space is the most beautiful women in the world to me. And I thank the world that I’m lucky enough to have her move in with me this week – hopefully forever. We reconnected recently after a 24 years apart. We loved each other in 8th grade then went our separate ways. Then by pure chance we met again 6 months ago and haven’t left each other’s side. A month into our reunion we were lucky enough to catch the last two songs of Bon Iver at the Sasquatch Music Festival. During that show I knew I loved this women and knew I wanted to commit myself to her – thank the lord she felt the same way. Maybe there are some others who deserve the tickets more, maybe whoever gets the tickets will have a chance to find love as well, who knows. But if not, I would be honored to take Tasha for the first time to a place I have loved for years so we can experience a performer who means so much to who and what we are and hope to be for years to come. (sorry this is so sappy but it’s how I feel. and thanks for letting us know about the show!!)

  56. idiot Says:

Oh my god. I have even already purchased ’snacks’ for this – what promises to be THE experience of experiences – but apparently I waited 24 hours too long to buy the actual TICKETS off of ticketweb. Please don’t make me go to my own grave with this – what promises to be MY regret of regrets. Because I don’t even use the word ‘regret.’

  57. Heatherly Says:

I would be honored to attend this show. I heard about Bon Iver through my best friend a while ago, and fell in love with the unique artistry. My best friend invited me, and I accepted but I didn’t have any money. She’s a giving person, always treating me to things because she knows I can’t splurge. She told me she’d buy me a ticket, but out of pride, I declined. I didn’t want her to really think I was that poor that I couldn’t afford the $25 to see a show– but with my situation, $25 is money for food that I could spend for almost a week’s worth. I saved for the past month, and when I went to try and buy my ticket, they were all sold out. My friend is coming down from Sacramento to Long Beach, still thinking I’d be able to go. I haven’t told her yet that, “I can’t go. Yes, I waited, because I didn’t have any money, and I failed you because of my pride, I could have just let you know that I’d pay you back, and I’m sorry you have to go alone.” I hope I won’t have that dialog with her. The shows in almost two weeks and there hasn’t been a day where I haven’t though about waking up to Bon Iver. I’m writing this because I still hope I have a chance. Thanks for reading.

  58. girl_from_wisconsin Says:

I would love to win these tickets—how do I enter the contest?

  59. Jess Gould Says:

Though I’m originally from LA, I have been living on the East Coast for 3 years now. It’s a completely different mindset and I always wish that I could return home. My closest friend from home came to visit me at one point and introduced me to Bon Iver. I fell in love with his sound, the depth to his voice and lyrics. He has a unique ability to utilize different environments to his acoustic advantage. I could only imagine the beauty behind the creation of his album in a mountain cabin. And videos of his performances in tiny streets and apartments in France conjured up hopes that I could watch him perform in an intimate and nontraditional environment. I was lucky enough to catch a performance in Philadelphia, but the venue was large and the crowd unappealing.
    | just returned to LA in order to study for 2 weeks and then take a 9-hr board exam. I leave to return to Philly the Sunday night that Bon Iver is performing here and I can think of no better way to experience his singularity and bid my hometown goodbye than with my dearest friend, at the break of dawn, in a venue filled with fellow Iver revelers who like me, seek to replace their fast-paced life with a moment of naked emotion wrought by blending musical genius with natural splendor. Please consider me..

  60. Hannah Donovan Says:

I just moved to LA and am having a really tough time adjusting. I feel like I’ve picked the wrong school and am feeling outcasted from the So Cal society. Bon Iver has been getting me through these first couple weeks at college, and I freaked out when I saw he would be playing at sunrise…this sounds like the most beautiful experience, and I would be overjoyed to be a part of it. So excited, in fact, that I told my sister about it, and she bought a plane ticket so she can fly out and see him with me. The next day, when I went to buy the tickets, they were sold out, and I was more than devastated. I’ve tried looking everywhere for Bon Iver tickets that other people are selling, but they are so expensive! If I don’t win this contest, which I’m hoping I do, can anyone give me suggestions as to where I can buy cheaper tickets for the show? (like less than $100?) Thanks, and I’m hoping I am the lucky winner!

  61. Cassidy Says:

I absolutely love Bon Iver. I heard them recently and have not stopped listening to them. I live in Seattle and I am flying to down to San Diego on the weekend of this show. My mom told me they were playing at a graveyard in LA, she already has tickets, and jesus, it is my dream to see a show at a cemetery.
To show my need to go to this show I’ll tell you a little story. I have concert withdrawls if I don’t go to shows often. I thought I was in luck when I found out a beautiful music festival called bumbershoot was happening this weekend at my work (Seattle center.) Turns out I am working during every performance I wanted to see. So I was walking around the art/poster area and came across this amazing Bon Iver poster that is for this show. I bought it instantly, I mean why not. It’s gorgeous and already framed in my living room. I went to show my step dad and he said ‘I’ve never known a person who bought a poster to a show they haven’t been to yet. Anyways so after working an excrutiating shift at my work today, missing The Yeah Yeah Yeah’s and David Cross I came home to buy tickets and they are a hundred dollars, I can not afford this. I would be soo happy to win these tickets and I know I would thoroughly enjoy the win.
    Thanks

  62. Kelsey Taylor Says:

I desperately want to see this show! This february my grandmother died, and while it was painful, it was the first time that I felt spiritual at all… there was a sort of magical peace that enveloped the cemetery. When I heard that bon iver was playing in a cemetery at sunrise I realized that I HAD to go… it may be the only time i feel as at peace as i did then. Unfortunately I’m a student and so I can’t afford tickets. I’d be so ridiculously happy to win these tickets.

  63. Summer D. Says:

Willing to buy the $100+ tickets to go, but winning them free would be better.

  64. Hannah Cassell Says:

Bon got me up Dead Womans Pass with his skinny love, I would love to see him to thank him for that one!!

  65. Genevieve Says:

There are only two artists that have pushed me around the way Justin’s voice has. Bon Iver and Regina Spektor. I cannot express in appropriate words how much For Emma Forever ago has meant for me. If I am to see any show this year it is this one. I would be forever grateful and eternally happy to experience not only what cannot help but be an amazing musical concert but also an outrageously fantastic memory. The importance of this gift would not be lost on me. thank you
    -genevieve

  66. Ben Says:

If I were an astronaut, I would be out of the world for these tickets. Like to the moon! Maybe even Mars. I absoulely need to be there. Sunrises are glorious, and accompanied by music would be SUPREMELY SPLENDID – seriously.

  67. Joel Says:

Winning these tix would be on the same level as getting a Red Ryder BB Gun for Christmas…

  68. Alice Says:

Bon Iver is going to be playing at my wedding. This man should be the bearer of my children even though I like girls. Playing at sunrise at a the Hollywood Forever was probably Bon Iver’s brain child. This man will probably make everyone turn over in their graves via Bon’s pristine voice. I need this. For my soul.

  69. mia Says:

this artist changed me and i have been so looking forward to seeing him when he came near, but im in the middle of a career change and i am months late on rent so spending one hundred dollars on these is not responsible. i am hoping that you can maybe read this article i wrote on him and his amazing artistry and see what this would mean to me…thank u for ur consideration, hope you at least enjoy the words….PLEASE HELP!!!! SOO Desperate!!!!!
For Emma, Forever Ago, Bon Iver
Holy Mother of GOD! I am truly blown away by this album and it’s completeness. I haven’t experienced such intense emotion form and connection to a musician (Justin Vernon) and his complete album…in a long time (possibly since my discovery of Jeff Buckley’s “Grace”). The personal journey that is so delicately delivered and so intensely received by Justin is perfectly un-perfect. The strength of some of his hooks and melodies are paralyzing. I find myself thinking about this album, listening to it again and again and humming it when walking. I look up the lyrics, I’ve watched him perform on You Tube (I never look up anything on You Tube), I blog about it, I think this album may have changed me. I am so grateful for the introduction to Bon Inver, I know you will be too… feel the cold pain of this album, “For Emma, Forever Ago” and look forward to the new release of “Blood Bank”, it is about the warmth that gets you through it. One last thing…you may all love “Skinny Love” (and how can you not), but re-examine “Re: Stacks”, it may change you too?

    Blood Bank, Bon Iver
The follow up EP from Bon Iver, is simply amazing, at least to all his fans. The well known “sophomore album syndrome” affects a huge number of artists. Justin Vernon is a clever guy though – instead of making people wait for a second album, which will, of course, put a lot of pressure on him, he released a four song EP that is surely designed to get people used to Bon Iver being a band, not just one man sitting on a log with a reverb pedal. This time Bon Iver does not mean Justin Vernon, two more musicians help to beef up his sound. Did it really need “beefing up”, though..?If you haven’t heard it already, you will probably be fairly apprehensive as to how this sound has come out, as I was. But, not only has Bon Iver improved, the production is significantly better. “Blood Bank” will silence doubters and possibly even convert some dissenters thanks to Bon Iver’s new sound. Bon Iver? A good winter indeed.

  70. LifeIsSweet Says:

Well, I probably will not be able to get tickets to this show, which sucks because it could be the best thing that has happened to me. After having oral surgery twice in one year, camping on the beach for a whole month, and not being able to buy my books for class because my financial aid check was delayed for three weeks, I could really use an uplifting concert like this. I am still searching day and night on-line hoping against hope that I will find tickets, but I’m already bummed because I think I may have missed another great opportunity. By the way, if anyone would like to see me their tickets I will find a way to come up with the money to buy them. *smiles*

  71. LifeIsSweet Says:

My email address is jenniferehoward@gmail.com which I forgot to add in my previous post. Also, I’d like to include my reasons for wanting to win this contest. I feel that I deserve these tickets because life has been so hard for me financially the last two years since I am a community college student. Since I am the first in my family to go to college, I am determined to finish with at least a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science if not beyond. True, I could just drop out and get a full-time job or even work full-time while I attend classes, however, I prefer to focus on school full-time and try to work hard at it. Of course, at the CC level financial aid doesn’t cover much, unfortunately. All the time I’ve dedicated to my post-rock/indie image is going down the tubes since I have to choose between food, rent, or live entertainment (by the way, this image is highly important in the way of street smarts!). I choose food over rent since I’m a vegetarian/70% vegan which now means that I have to camp on the beach in L.A. while dodging all the squatters as I skateboard down the boardwalk in Venice. Nothing wrong with squats, I might add, but I’m totally over my drug phase and alcohol induced spanging escapades, which of course is why I’m back in school. In addition, school has been especially hard since I live in L.A. and I seem to be the only grunge chick left on earth as far as trends are concerned. Although, before I returned and declared Environmental Studies as a major, vanity was the last thing I thought I would have to forgo in exchange for a college education. But hey, the conservationist, eco friendly movement needs me! So here I am, semi-broke, kind of’ hungry, while studying for my exams, listening to Bon Iver on YouTube, and pleading for tickets on Fader.com. Aside for the countless people who are in “dire” need of these tickets, I hope to win them because I could just use a break! One night of relaxation through one of this century’s best song writers of the indie/folk persuasion would be this year’s best medicine for me!

  72. Ann Says:

Not sure if you’re still giving away these tickets, but here is my plea.
I am a recent college graduate and, like most others in my demographic, have been left with thousands of dollars of student loan debt (thank you Southern California private school) and no career to show for it. Life is desperate for me. A show as rad as this, as unique as this, to see Bon Iver @ sunrise in a cemetery, would bring such delight to my life–and break up the depressing monotony of searching day after day for jobs I will never get, merely because I’m right out of college and have come into a terribly weak economy. I, along with two of my other discouraged friends, would really, really, really be stoked to be able to see this show. We had every intention of putting our week’s earnings from babysitting (with college degrees, mind you) towards these tickets, but they aren’t available anymore and this is our only hope. We’re desperate.

  73. Fritzy Says:

After having my partner surprise me with the experience of seeing J.Tillman perform amongst the redwoods and dramatic coastline of Big Sur at Henry Miller Library for our anniversary, I would simply be most appreciative to give him the experience of hearing Justin Vernon perform at sunrise in a cemetery amongst the city of Angels. We were unfortunately unable to attend Bon Iver @ Hollywood Forever initially and now we are…but tickets are with no surprise, gone! It would be a blessed and cherished moment. Please consider us. Thank you. Much Love + CHEERS!

  74. kristin Says:

I would fly from washington to see this show. I want to be here as much as i want to fly to the moon…which is a ridiculously huge statement. My life would be complete. PLEASE! I’ll bring you some chips from canada!

  75. Carmen Says:

I will donate my tickets to see Phoenix & Passion Pit in Central Park September 25 & 26 to charity and instead buy a plane ticket and fly to LA just for this show. I saw Justin play as part of the Dark Was The Night show in Radio City and there is no better musician right now. Leave it to him to come up with the most amazing setting for a show

  76. seth Says:

i don’t have a great story. only that i know it’ll be a once-in-a-lifetime show and i would love to be part of the experience.

  77. David Powers Says:

After leaving LA over 3 years ago I haven’t yet come up with a good enough reason to make the journey back. I believe Bon Iver at sunrise would be that very reason I’ve been looking for. I’ve been a fan of his music since I came across it a few months back and have yet to see him live. I would love to be able to document this trip back and the show for everyone else to enjoy, if given the chance the course.

    :]

  78. Kate Says:

Just reconnected with my skinny love that didn’t last the year, and going to this show together would be the perfect grand romantic gesture. Right? Like in the movies?

  79. Andre Koch Says:

I need a ticket, please. I coming straiht from germany to see him. and thtey told me, that the concert is sold out. It isn’t true. That can’t be true. The flights are already booked, help. It seems that sometimes life is a b****.

I wanted to see Bon Iver at a show in Hamburg/Germany. But was in Hopital at this time. So the show was without me. If I get one or two tickets, that would be great.

  80. yucca Says:

bon iver gives me wet dreams. i would like to have one while sitting upon a gravestone.

  81. alana Says:

    if ever music could
    rattle bones or
pull the sun up on a string
    his is it

    if ever a moment warranted
    repeating
    over and over
    (to grandkids, others)
    “i was there”
    this is it

  82. Fallon Says:

I need these tickets like a fat kid needs cake. Everyone knows someone who loves cake well i love music like i love cake and that is a rather unhealthy obsession. I’m not gonna get on here and write sappy stories about loved ones/loves lost. I’m just going to be honest. I work a thank less job that pays me shit, because it’s a job and everyone needs one especially here in LA right now. My thank less job that pays me shit prevented me fron getting tickets when they first went on sale because i had no money Music is my life blood and i breathe it, without music life makes no sense. I hope to one day write for a music magazine. I wish i could make music but i’m musicalliy inept.
Music is the essence that all souls need to keep living,
that all hearts need to keep beating.
Music is the connection that needs to keep the brain turning.

  83. kw Says:

    Please.

  84. Holly Tant Says:

This concert sounds simply amazing. I’m going to shamelessly play this card in hopes to win these tickets: I’m pretty much broke. The past 6 months I have lived in Africa serving the people in Mozambique and South Africa. I now work for free for a non-profit organization called Invisible Children. We are working to end the longest running war by raising awareness and rallying the youth of America. (invisiblechildren.com). The weekend of this concert my absolute best friends that I have not seen in 10 months will be here to have the most epic weekend. This concert in itself would make it that.

  85. Ben Says:

I never win anything and nothing would make me happier than for this to be the first.

  86. liz Says:

yes please. i will take my friend kim. she deserves a nice gift.

  87. Laura Francis Says:

Please! please!! I need to encounter real zombies while listening to Justin’ insanely haunting voice… pick me!!! sincerely, Laura Francis

  88. Sasha Says:

I would love to watch this concert and kick it with dead celebrities! It sold out so so quickly =(.

  89. Theresa Says:

When I first heard Bon Iver I was in school in chicago and I fell in LOVE! I wanted so much to see him in concert and actually FEEL the music from more than just my ipod! My friends and I went to Northwestern, Wisconsin and camped in the woods in 30 degree weather and played his album! We nearly froze to death and almost got arrested (oops!). I email his fan site website almost everyday! Back in LA, and this concert means the world to me! I AM his biggest fan! I will do ANYTHING to get the tickets! ANYTHING! Please pick me- the girl who almost froze to death for Justin, Mike, Sean, and Matthew(my future sons’ names!) ;)

  90. kathy Says:

PLEASE HELP ME….BECAUSE I’M AN IDIOT. i was in charge of buying tickets for my friend and I, and when i got the tickets in the mail, only one arrived. apparently i only purchased 1 online. i have no idea how i could be stupid enough to do that. it’s almost like i’m new to this thing called the World Wide Web and was incompetent. PLEASE…

  91. Sarah Says:

I really really really really really really really want to go. When the tickets first went on sale, I was rallying up some people to go so I wanted to wait until I knew how many to buy. Now they are sold out. :( My brother introduced me to Bon Iver and then I heard him on Indigo Girls celebrity playlist. Skinny Love used to be my fave song by them, but now listening to the live version of Blood Bank, I get chills. (NPR podcast download).

SO… PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let me win. I really want to win. Oh, and I just found out my ex husband is having a baby… we’ve only been divorced for 6 months and she is 3 months pregnant. I cried all day yesterday, but was finally able to come to terms with it today. Also, today is my 9 month sobriety date.

A concert with coffee and breakfast at 6am would be SO perfect! I REALLY want to go. Please pick me.

  92. Alison Says:

please! i just started dating this guy who showed me Bon over and I’ve fallen in love with his music since. I finally got the guts to ask him to go and it was sold out. please, it would be the most amazing night! thanks you

  93. Matt Says:

I would like tickets because this show will destroy everyone and they will be talking about it years from now at the premier of the documentary…

  94. Izzy Says:

Please please please!! It’s my best friends birthday and she is a completely devoted fan of Bon iver and she introduced me to his stuff (I LOVE IT)this would be the best gift ever!!! I was way too slow on the ticket buying and it so sucks. She’s turning 18 and we will have been friends for 16 years. I make a to die for peach pie and I will send you as many as you desire if I win!!! Acually if you just want some. But please pick me!

  95. Maxine Says:

I can’t think of a better band to hear as the day breaks! This is pure genius. The spirits will be pleased.

  96. Kate Says:

I’ll offer my body for a ticket.
    just kidding.
    or am I?

I’m flying in from the good ol’ midwest state of Missouri. I dunno if you LA folk do that whole southern hospitality thing, but I’m thinking this would be a perfect opportunity to show some loving my way, right?
You could even just do it out of pity for me being from the midwest and having to pay to fly all the way to get there. Either way works for me.

  97. Jimmy Says:

    Yo check it out Fader,

I’m really happy for ya, and ima let chu finish. But Dave Chappelle had one of the best Giveaways Ever! (http://www.comedycentral.com/videos/index.jhtml?videoId=11888&title=tyrone-biggums-crack)

“I’m here for the same reason you is!” – Tyrone Biggum

    I want Bon Iver Tickets!

  98. Karin Says:

is it too late? Please please, consider me? Bon Iver at dawn sounds magical.

  99. Tara Says:

my friend will shave off her left eyebrow.

  100. Ben Says:

Thank you so much Fader. This Bon Iver gives me a chance to connect with the girl I love. Please enter me in the running.

  101. Giulio Says:

I heard that at 6:05am the living dead will rise from their graves and dance along to Bon Iver tunes, Thriller Style. Then Woody Herman, who is buried there, will come out and lead the band in an orgy of instrumentation. For the encore Dee Dee and Johnny Ramone, also buried there, will play Blitzkreig Bop. I can’t possibly miss that. OK, so none of that is going to happen. What will really happen is that Bon Iver is going to be interrupted every 5 minutes by the screaming of some jittery, sleep deprived girl who has just been stepped on and thinks someone is reaching for her from beyond he grave. I still really, really want to go.

  102. Julia Says:

I really hope you consider me the lucky person to get these tickets. I saw these tickets a few weeks back when i was broke and i thought i would wait a week until i got my paycheck. Hah, that was the worst idea ever, tickets shot up 100 dollars more than i can afford. I would love to see Bon Iver. No matter if I don’t get to go to this show, my heart and soul will be there. I just wish my eyes and ears could be there also. Please give me this great opportunity to see this amazing beautiful soulful human being. I listened to Bon Iver the whole way throughout my Alaska trip, and he made every moment of it perfect. I want to recover that satisfaction I got from listening to him, but instead a live IN MY FACE satisfaction. I also turned my whole family on to him because I wouldn’t let them listen to anything else on the car drives. This would be very meaningful to me.
    Thank you <3

  103. Kelsey NaPier Says:

The soft, but confident strums stream out of my speakers and wrap around my hand, guiding my brush to wisk paint across the canvas. The raw, but simple sound reminds me that there’s more than all the physical things we see. Listening helps me to cut down on the excess layers, and just paint what I feel and what I think. I’m not lonely when I paint. I am at home with my own thoughts. Bon Iver reminds me that an artist is never poor nor alone.

  104. Michael Nguyen Says:

I got nothing special to offer, I just absolutely love Bon Iver.

  105. Nick Cruz Says:

I’ll dance on whatever grave you ask me to for those tickets.

  106. Melanie Says:

Oh DEAR GOD…PLEASE pick me pick meeee!

  107. Lenea Sims Says:

“There is a pleasure in the pathless wood,
a rapture in the lonely shore.
I love not man the less, but nature more”-Lord Byron

This all I can think of when i think of Bon Iver. he is a mad genuis, an angel in his own right and i need to be there to see him play. i have panic disorder and i have a panic attack everytime i think of death. for my own personal therapy, i started listening to Bon Iver and my life has forever been changed. through the eerie music of bon iver and others like him, i’ve conquered my fear of death and obviously, a concert in a cemetary would completely cap off my “treatment”. i hope you see my genuine love of music, and hope to get better. please please please give me tickets :)
    i’ll even do a happy dance :)

  108. Angela Says:

It is my birthday that weekend and I would like nothing more than to groove to the sweet music of Bon Iver at a cemetery. I found out about this concert right after it sold out and have been trying to buy tickets off of craigslist but no one is emailing me back :( Justin Vernon’s voice and soothing melodies are truly moving! As an artist myself, Bon Iver is inspirational and I can only imagine all of the beauty that will come during this concert. I would love to dance around the cemetery, hold seances, and hang out with all of the other crazy Bon Iver fans! This concert will be mind blowing and I would love to be in the sea of fans. I would even help to clean up around the cemetery as I pranced around to keep the peace with the dead souls- hopefully some zombies come out to groove!

  109. Jake Says:

I was going to fake my own death and have myself buried in Hollywood Forever before week’s end so I could dig myself out in time for the show, so winning these tickets would save me a whole lot of trouble.

  110. Christopher Schroeder Says:

So I fell in love at the Hollywood forever cemetery four years ago with this girl that I had know for years. We saw Lolita there on a hot September night, it was a pivotal moment in our lives. I would like to go to the show and invite her again, and hopefully have the same feelings again. we have drifted apart. I found out about the show to late, its a week away and sold out. Thanks for giving one last chance to us that found out too late.

  111. Rebecca Says:

Please, oh please, please, please, please, pretty pretty please, please and thank you, please, please, please, again please, and once again please give me the tickets to see Bon Iver!!! I need them, so I can listen to “Skinny Love,” while watching the big fireball in the sky appear before my tiny eyes. What I would do if I could go… thank the Lord, kiss a homeless person, give money to a homeless person… whatever it is, I’ll do it (I swear). Can’t wait! I hope I win!!

  112. Jamie Mayer Says:

must. go. no strength to write. only tickets will revive me… must…

  113. Yara Says:

i heard about this show a few weeks ago, at which point tickets were not offered online. now that i hear it’s sold out, i truly want to cry.

but i’m at work… and crying would be slightly unprofessional.

BON IVER + HOLLYWOOD FOREVER CEMETERY = to die for!!! (pun definitely intended)

sign me up! please and thanks!

  114. James Says:

I need this like my bowel movements need ex-lax. I’m emotionally constipated and need these tickets for revival!

  115. drashy Says:

my fave musicman + THE CEMETERY! + the sunrise + early breakfast, my favorite meal = best 6 hours of my life? yes, please.

  116. Michelle Says:

Ever since I started listening to Bon Iver a few years back they have become my escape. I just stumbled on this website by chance and found out about this amazing performance that I would be honored to go to. “What might have been lost” will not be lost to me.

  117. Virginia Newcomb Says:

I was hipped to Bon Iver by a good friend and fellow lover of dark and mysterious things. My birthday is coming up and I’d love to take her. Plus, its been a fucker of a year. The plan is to slough it off, bury it in a quite place, and for god’s sake birth something new. What better metaphor for resurrection than a sunrise concert in a cemetery… and tickets are sold out. My only other option is to dig a whole under the fence and that will most assuredly be a gnarly experience given the, well, you know, dead people.

  118. Hannon Rasool Says:

I hope these tickets are still available. This concert seems like an amazing experience. I tried to buy tickets tonight and they’re sold out. The jerk-offs on Craigslist and StubHub are asking over $100 per ticket.

  119. please Says:

please please please let me get what i want

  120. Crystal Says:

God I hope the winners will be picked at random! After reading so many posts I am starting to feel like a selfish jerk for even making an attempt. Good luck to us all!

  121. Mondo Says:

I really wanted to suprise my wife but waited to long to purchase tickets, and now, as you know, they are sold out. Please send us to see Bon Iver at sunrise!

  122. Grant Says:

THIS WILL BE THE MOST EPIC SHOW OF THE MILLENNIUM. period. i must be there.

  123. Raphaelle Steinzig Says:

I was staying with my mom in Northern California this summer. The computer is in the room where I sleep, and I woke up at 7 a.m. on my first Saturday home, to my mom, leaning over the keyboard and staring at a tiny, fuzzy youtube video. “What’s happening?” I asked. “This person, this Bon Iver, the first thing I’ve heard in decades that I like. I wanted to hear him first thing in the morning.”

We went out and bought an album that day. She turns 67 this week. Please let me take my incredibly awesome, beautiful, folk-singing mother to hear Bon Iver, the first person who really made her take notice since Bob Dylan. It would so totally excellent.

  124. Choice Says:

PLEASE pick me!!!! this sounds like a one time in a life experience….

  125. Rebecca Says:

    Dear friend,

I have had the hardest year of my life. I am 29 years old. I moved here to LA from Pennsylvania just about a year ago to be with the man I thought I would marry. I had never been so far from my family before, and when he left me I almost unraveled completely. I lost love. I lost both of my cats that I had moved out here with me, and who I dearly loved. I lost my cool. I lost my job. I lost hope for a long while. I am so broke that I still haven’t managed to pay September rent in full. It is now September 22, and the landlord is threatening to give a 3 day notice if I don’t somehow manage to come up with the rest of my rent money. I am in the process of declaring bankruptcy, and I can’t come up with the money to pay my lawyer. I am hanging on by a thread.

I listen to For Emma, Forever Ago nonstop. Particularly Re: Stacks. “It’s the sound of the unlocking and the lift away..”

I long for the lift away. I am working so hard to get my life into a rhythm that I can sustain. I have overcome the hardest parts of this struggle, I think. I would love to catch a break. I heard about this show, and knew that I needed to be there. I don’t have any money for tickets though. I did a random search for the show, just to check in on it, and low and behold I came across this contest. It seems too good to be true. I only need one ticket. Please make my year, and choose me. Give the other ticket to someone else. I would be more than happy to go to this show all by myself. It almost makes sense that I should.

    I’ll be saying little prayers….

  126. Mika Remulla Says:

I am turning 17 on September 28. Seeing Bon Iver work his magic would be the most perfect gift. Unfortunately, the tickets sold out even before I heard about the concert. It would mean a lot for me to see him live. I was looking up Craigslist too but the prices are ridiculously high!

His music inspires me to keep up with struggle. I listen to his songs when I am calm, depressed, or contemplative. One of the best summer memories I had was staring at a starlit sky while listening to Blindsided. It was so chill it gave me goosebumps! The best thing was the right at the climax of the song ashooting star passed by. His songs might be simple but they got power. They struck a big blow to my head. They tell me to be patient and thankful when I’m down. Really they do. Even if I can’t understand his lyrics, his tone brings this deep touching feeling. They really inspire me to make music. I even made a cover of Flume :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-CknKIjDDN4

And honestly, when I’m having problems and have no one to talk to, I dig up my iPod for music to lighten me up. It always end up to be Bon Iver. I think the reason why his music is so good is because you could feel the songs. He pours out his emotion. Even if you don’t understand what he’s saying, you get the feeling he’s projecting. I’d like to be that kind of musician someday.

  127. Tyler Fogerty Says:

Bon Iver in a cemetery is like a glass of water in the desert. So insanely epic!!!!!.. great folk music at dawn+camping in a cemetery all night= YES!!

  128. Ryan Stayton Says:

I’m willing to check into Hollywood Forever forever to see this show. Also, I’m the guy who bought the spot next to Marilyn Monroe.

  129. Emma Says:

    I want for:
“In the morning I’ll be with you, but it will be a different kind”
    I know you are:
“…holding all the tickets” and I am “owning all the fines”

“everything will change from now on” if this happens.

  130. Marshall Says:

    A Bon Iver Show:
    Worth the cost of admission.
    Either way, I’m game.

  131. Melissa S Says:

What can I say? Sunrise with Bon Iver on my 30th b-day couldn’t get any better………….

  132. Cameron Says:

Is it weird if this won’t be the first time I’ve stayed over night in a cemetery? It’ll be nice to have music this time, though. Bon Iver will be a huge added bonus.

  133. Jennifer Daley Says:

I’m not one for female objectification, but I’ll break the feminist rules for this one. Let’s just say there may be an HJ or two in store for the dude or lady or picks me.

Plus, I’ll blog about how radical Fader is and I might just get one of those crappy car magnets that reads “The Fader is the shit” and slap it on the side of my car.

  134. adam Says:

well out of 134 comments I think my chances of winning are pretty slim, so does anyone have a ticket for sale???

  135. Cate Says:

i would really enjoy a ticket to the bon iver show, my friends all have tickets, but i was just too late in trying to buy one. also, my sister will kill me if i don’t go because she doesn’t live in la and wants at least one of us to go. thanks for the chance!!

  136. Anthony Says:

…It’s not my birthday on that day, his music hasn’t stopped me from committing suicide, and I won’t give you a handjob for the tickets, so I realize I’m lagging here, but I’d still like to put in a good word for myself on how much I would absolutely love to be at this show! Gratzie.

  137. Seychelle Says:

    Please.

  138. Aidan Fenwick Says:

Hi, my name is Aidan and Im 17, and hand in hand with this I am just a wee bit lacking on the whole 125$ thing…So I discovered Bon Iver just a month ago and since then have downloaded every album he has ever made (legally of course…) The music is very uplifting yet it has a bittersweet ache to it that reminds me of my own humanity and the frailness of life. Also my Calculus teacher is going to this concert and I think it would be a little bit interesting to chill with him (he goes to concerts all the time…he’s kind of a legend. I am young and havn’t been to many concerts and it would be a really amazing experience for me. My life isnt that difficult (besides a few failed relationships) I really cant complain about anything, I always have friends to support me, I do well in school, and unlike many people above me I do not cry myself to sleep while listening to Bon Iver; I just like it a lot and would really enjoy this (and the food will probably be scrumptious..and thats Definitely good.
    Your beautiful….

  139. Tom Fandre Says:

If i am not able to obtain these tickets somehow I might have to find another way to get into the show.

  140. Alex Ermakov Says:

When I was a kid, I would always run away from home to practice my acoustic guitar at the cemetery, which was couple of blocks away from my house. When I grew up, I started listening to Bon Iver, and absolutely loved it. The combination of two is the definition of happiness.

  141. magic Says:

i don’t know what else to say, but these tickets would mean the world… i’ve been searching in all corners for these tix at a reasonable price, but no luck. hopefully i’ll be luckier here. thanks for the chance!

  142. Yelena Says:

If my brother and I get tickets, theFader.com will get gorgeous photographs of the show. Here is some of the stuff my brother does http://www.redbubble.com/people/alexermakov/art

  143. Kristal Says:

I don’t have anything on my side to win….pretty low on the comment food chain.I LOVE cemetaries and Bon Iver like everyone else who has entered. However I will just say pretty please. I will owe you. xo-Kristal

  144. Karl Griffith-Twomey Says:

    MY WIFE AND I NEED TO GO TO THIS SHOW. I’ve tried to contrive the right words to explain the depth of this need. So …. here we go;
going and hearing justin and the rest of the band in a cemetery would, hands down be the most memorable experiences of a lifetime. Justin music awakes depths i’ve never know, not to mention the inspiration that comes just from listening to the album. To hear it live? My heart leaps. As I said, this would be a chance of a lifetime, One i know would never be forgotten. We need to go because of the connection it brings to my wife and I. We need to go to receive inspiration to continue this journey know as life. I see justin as a fellow traveler along the way, offering his wisdom, struggles, joys, and frustrations. Tools to navigate this journey. I know this will be life changing. We need to go so our life may be changed for the good. We need to go to this event because of the symbolism. Bringing life and waking the dead. I long to be woken. I long for my marriage to be woken. I believe this could only achieve that. We need a unforgettable, lifechanging experience. We NEED to go. Please pick us.

  145. matt linker Says:

Time awaits for no one, time is as lifeless as we allow it to be, we can sit and allow time to pass us by going through the actions and daily routines day after day and just let the days fly by, or we can embrace time, down to the essence of every second, don’t let a second pass by that each breath doesn’t have a purpose, that we hold onto the time that we have and live or lives with a passion and desire that allows are light to shine for all to see. Not only shine’ but glow, be a light in this dark world, that we catch fire, that we spread our light like wild fire and that our light would spark a curiosity in the world, turn heads and have them wanting whatever it is that we all hold true in our hearts. Bon iver has people turning heads, finally opening there hearts and listening. this concert is more than just a concert to me and i would love to be able to finally open my heart and listen to a true and pure man perform in a time and place that will seem as if time has stopped and all the worries of the world have been ripped from existence. simply enough i need to go

  146. LaurenT Says:

I would love to go to bon iver and had planned on buying tickets before they were sold out! And im not going to tell you my sob story, about how i couldnt buy the tickets because i had to fix my brakes and didnt get paid til yesterday, because frankly i have everyone and everything i need in my life except ofcourse seeing bon iver live. And this would make my life to be able to go!
P.S. if i get to hear skinny love live, i might possible faint!

  147. Jennifer Griffith-Twomey Says:

I would be in Awe at Winning tickets to this show, it would probably make me cry ! My husband and I are only going to be in LA for one day, and after a long hard year we REALLY need to spend time enjoying eachother! What better way than drive all night, camp out in a cemetery, and see Bon Iver at Sunrise!! Our anniversary just passed, and this is the 2nd year we didn’t even celebrate. I don’t know what else to say, except winning these would mean alot !!

  148. Jennifer Griffith-Twomey Says:

2 hearts~each in our own words~See both our postings~#144 & #147! For the record…Blood Bank is one of the most healing songs, it touches my soul every time I hear it.
