My life long dream is to meet Larry Mullen Jr. I was fortunate to see U2 in Chicago for the 360 tour but saddened that Larry was hidden behind the cymbals and drum kit for most of the show. I believe he is the anchor in the band and admire his dedication to his teenage dream!

Wow! Where to start with a line up like that?!

If I had to pick just one, I would have to pick Bono(and the rest of U2 of course!) because Bono is a wonderful caring person and musician, with some of his lyrics, “Every generation gets a chance to change the world Pity the nation that will listen to your boys and girls,” “I could never take a chance Of losing love to find romance”, “I can’t believe the news today Oh, I can’t close my eyes and make it go away How long, how long must we sing this song? ‘Cause tonight we can be as one, tonight” show how much character he has, what a wonderful soul he has… He really opened up my mind last week when I went to one of the stops on the U2 360 tour with his discussion on the RED campaign, among other things. I would love to see them again because it was a crowd of 83,000 and with that many people you loose the feeling of intimacy you should get from a concert; being connected with the artist. Also, Bono has been one of my favorite artists since I was about 6 years old, I used to run around singing “Beautiful Day” pretending I could sing like him…. now I know I can’t sing like him but I still love him and its still amazing to have seen him.

Seeing Bono in person last week was truly amazing, a highlight of my life for sure, and to do it again would really just downright MAGNIFICENT.

Gavin Friday, hands down.

I’ve wanted to see Gavin live for about 15 years, and the closest I have gotten was to hear his liquid voice in Erik Sanko’s “The Fortune Teller.” He is a phenomenal musician with an incredible range and knack for mood and story. His energy and theatricality bleeds through his music and I imagine his live show is just as infused. It is wonderful to see U2 and friends, who have had more commercial success in the US, give Gavin and his talent the pomp and circumstance it deserves here in the states. And to support the RED campaign as well? That’s icing on the cake.

Well… by the looks of the rules of this contest, only those that live in NYC or Long Island are allowed to win. I’d be willing to travel (and yes I understand that will be my own expense), but if those are the rules, then I guess anyone that really wanted to go that doesn’t have the luxury of living in NYC or Long Island is void! That’s really sad since by the looks of the entries, probably most of the people that truly wanted to go (other than myself) don’t even live in the area. Plus (to be quite frank) if Gavin Friday isn’t the reason you’re going… that’s pretty sad. Almost every other performer in the line-up will do a show in NYC at least once every 2 years, and Gavin rarely ever makes his way to the United States. The prospect to see the any of the others exists for the rest of the line-up (and that includes stuff like JG Thirlwell & Lydia Lunch… JG lives in NYC, and Lydia always ends up doing something in NYC it seems like once a year!) The chance to get to see Gavin is extremely rare, and becoming even more rare with age (and extremely long overdue for moi!)

We’ve been following Gavin through his carreer for years now, I can still remember his show in France au “Café de la danse” in 1995, what a great show!
Since then we have seen him on many occasions in Dublin.
Another great show was”Is that all there is”and I really wish there was a live cd as his interpretation was absolutely magnificient!
Having moved to Montreal since it would be a great opportunity to see him at Carnegie Hall
by the way, Gavin, we miss you really much and we are still expecting a new album !!!
Shag Tobacco was a revelation 14 years ago , blow up my mind once again!

Most excited to see Gavin Friday and Guggi because they and the other other Virgin Prunes made Ireland safer for young people with different visions and different sensibilities. They were iconoclastic, driven, heretical, foils for the mundane, fanatics for the sublime. I loved them. They were brave, beautiful and bashful. They molded the music scene in Ireland and made it glorious.

The obvious answer is Gavin Friday. There is only one Gav and he hasn’t hit my neck of the woods (Boston) in AGES….10-12 years? Talk about serious withdrawal! I miss you, boy! The added bonus to this lineup is a potential Prunes non-reunion (because we don’t do those!), a deconstructed U2, Joel Grey, Shane McGowan and Rufus Wainwright.

I would be SO thrilled to take my husband back to NYC to see Gavin. When we lived in NYC we were lucky to see him perform a few times. We would be honored to participate in his birthday celebration.. As I lost my job in April and there would be no other way for us to go. When I read about the lineup I really wanted to weep.

Mr Friday is a supreme performer and I can only dream of how he would be at Carnegie Hall. To see him the same evening as Guggi, Dik, Bono, The Edge, and Jim Thirlwell, in a show presented by Hal Willner would be the icing on the red velvet cake. We are long time admirers of Mr. Friday in his many projects. Please bring a couple of NYC exiles back to see him. Pretty please!! With a cherry on top! It would mean more than you could know.

Who do I want to see the most? Hmmm… well, that’s easy… Gavin Friday & JG Thirlwell! I’m probably the biggest Gavin addict on this side of the Atlantic! Not to mention… I adore JG Thirlwell just as much as Gavin, and the odds of the 2 of them performing in the same place, the same night are once in a lifetime! The only other time that may have sort-of happened was JG’s guest work on Virgin Prunes “The Moon Looked Down and Laughed”.
If I lived in NYC, I’d already have my tickets… but since I am out of the area… I would make the trip! So factor in the fact if I had to buy tix to show, plane tix, and a hotel… That’s alot of money I don’t have in this economy! However, if I won the tix… I would make the latter arrangements in a heartbeat!
Oh, and I’d love to see Guggi (since I LOOOOVE the Virgin Prunes), and I’d like to see Lydia Lunch perform in front of band instead of a spoken word show if possible! Shane MacGowan would be a long overdue performer I’d love to see before I did (or he dies) … and hell yes, I would love see members of U2 perform something out of character… I like surprises! Hal Wilner shows are great when it comes to surprises!!
So why should I win? Because I’m not a casual fan of Gavin… I’m a DIEHARD and have been for about 20 years!
