Aeroplane’s October Mix MP3

October 22, 2009

In a strictly nerd, semi-embarrassing way, a little shudder of joy shook through our thick flesh when we read the words "Maurice Fulton Remix." The Mu and Syclops chieftain shows up with random abandon, laying his electro-pop paws on no steady stream of songs. It's good to see Belgian disco gods Aeroplane cosign our infatuation and start their new mix with Fulton's remix of Simian Mobile Disco's "Cruel Intentions," jazzy Beth Ditto telling us to call her up, we'll hang out. And the rest of the mix ain't shabby either, a surprising highlight being the Villa remix of Golden Filter's "Thunderbird," turning the track into something Donna Summer wouldn't be against signing her name to. That's Aeroplane's general vibe, the subtle tweaking of something not un-mainstream. Any number of these tracks could be a bumper between stories on NPR (unless they are stories about war or famine)—there's nothing aggressive or too bizarrely complex about their structures, lots of "I Feel Love" for today's time. In fact, we're sending this mix to our moms, for whom "I Feel Love" is still the ultimate. Thirty years later, it's time for an update, or at least a companion.
