Video: Ali Farka Touré and Toumani Diabaté Make a Record

December 14, 2009

"This record happened with no stress at all," said guitarist Ali Farka Touré (rest in peace) about his 2005 recording session with kora player Toumani Diabaté. That is because they are the greatest musicians in the history of the world. Listen to them discuss Mali and its musical culture, and their masterful relationships to their two very different stringed instruments. Then get ready to be super bummed about how you have no real tangible skill when Diabaté says they spent about three minutes total rehearsing and then they make a masterpiece. That album, Ali and Toumani, their second duo after the incredible In the Heart of the Moon, will be released in February.
