Video: Major Lazer, “Hold the Line (Frikstailers Cumbia RMX)”

It’s weird how this cumbia remix almost makes Mr. Lexx sound like he’s speaking some sort of mutant Spanish—is there a name/such a thing as a Spanglish patois? Linguists, get at us. It basically goes without saying that our novio in the glasses with the moustache is killing it, not least because he can SHOOT LASERS OUT OF HIS EYES (our perennial answer to the question “Which superpower do you want”). Big ups to Argentinian producer/DJs Frikstailers for making this video all wild and neon, and to Flamboyant Paradise for directing and including hot dogs (check out his awesome reel here).     this is so damn corny. fader vouches some the dumbest stuff sometimes…Everything Major Lazer makes is not cool…i.e. this track….losers and culture rapists.

    Hmm. That is interesting since this post is actually about Argentinian producers Frikstailers and the remix is cumbia/tropical, a style that originated in Columbia and is huge in Argentina, and the video is a take on the over-the-topness of Spanish language variety shows i.e. Sabado Gigante. But feel free to think whatever makes you feel right.

    Why is it that people say things along the lines of “culture rapist” when referring to Diplo? I just don’t get it. He’s bringing genres to us that we most likely wouldn’t know about. If it wasn’t for Fader, Diplo and other people, I would not know about Baile Funk, Kuduru (sp?), Grime and other sh^t. If Diplo wasn’t credible, he wouldn’t get to work with the artists he works with. Obviously they don’t think he’s exploiting their culture or else they wouldn’t have worked with him. Sometimes Fader does things we don’t agree with (Boosie cover), but that’s our opinion. It may be dumb to you and great to another. But at least they take risks and aren’t posting the same sh^t every one else does. 6 out of 10 posts are sh^t i’ve never heard of and i’m all over the place when it comes to music, fashion, etc. So like they said in Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels, “Chiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiill Winston,” and take sh^t for what it is.
