This Piece of Jewelry Should Probably Live in a Museum

January 13, 2010

Master jewelry deisgners Pamela Love and Derrick Cruz of Black Sheep and Prodigal Sons combine forces of the dark side for their newest collaboration, the Mammoth Talon Cuff. A truly historic piece of personal ornamentation/weaponry, the bracelet is hand-crafted from real life Siberian Wooly Mammoth tusks, estimated to be between 10 and 30 thousand years old. We don't know where Cruz got his hands on the extinct materials, although it's probably the same place he sourced out the vintage ivory breastplates in his new collection, Theft of Light. There are 14 of them in existence, with no mention of price just yet. Since the piece doubles as sculptural art (it comes complete with display case), it's essentially two for the price of one. We're thinking the vintage-fur-is-OK rule applies to Wooly Mammoth gnashers too.
