Video: Making the New LCD Soundsystem Album in Paradise

Looks like LCD Soundsystem mastermind James Murphy is putting together his own version of Funky Monks. Murphy recorded this spring’s upcoming third LCD album in a rented church-ish mansion with a pool, camping out by the breeze, very purposefully away from the hustle and bustle of his occasionally beloved New York City. “Why would anyone go to a studio? Look how fucking awesome this place is!” he says, and he’s right. This is labeled “Clip 1,” so hopefully there’s more footage to come soon.

That’s not just any house, that’s “The Mansion”, Rick Rubin’s recording studio in Laurel Canyon. It’s actually pretty dark and it’s always seemed pretty depressing to me. The Chili Peppers recorded Blood Sugar Sex Magik there.
