Golden boy Dean Bein has another pony for his gilded True Panther stable, announcing today the signing of ultra positive Memphis band Magic Kids. They sound like the oldies radio station, as filtered through a bunch of kids who staged their own version of Bye Bye Birdie in the summer, just for fun. Someone’s had some composition lessons, though, as this isn’t loose-goosey in the slightest, doowops, strings, deep reeds braided like a mini-fugue. Magic Kids start a tour with Girls tonight, and it’ll be curious to see how their effervescent positivity withstands the soft gloom of Girls. Consider it their puberty. Welcome to the club, Kids.
