Contest: Win an X-Mini Speaker

Now that we literally live in the future we enjoy our music in a more portable form than ever. That means that when we’re not listening to music on tiny earbuds we’re probably listening to it on miniscule internal laptop speakers while crying and wondering where all the bass has gone. People of the future: we need look no further than RIGHT NOW, because X-Mini has produced a line of speakers small enough to fit in a little box but loud enough to remind us what listening to music should really be all about. Hit us in the comments with a sadsack story about your poor sound situations and a few of you in the worst music-listening situations will get one of these bad boys sent directly to your doorstep. Just remember to use your real email address so we can let you know if you won. Things can only get better.

I just bought a pair of the bose in-ear headphones for about $100 because I was tired of my laptop speakers and I expected that they would be worth it. They have already stopped working and I don’t have the receipt to get the warranty. Being a college student, I can’t just keep throwing out money on speakers. These would be nice!

  4. Dee says:

I only have the built in speakers in my laptop!!! Otherwise I run my music in my car. Really sad.

  5. Rocio says:

I also have to rely on the speakers on my dying laptop to listen to my music. My neighbors in my apartment complex remind me of this when they turn up the volume on their jams and rock out.

Did I mention that I was laid off in March of last year and never found a job before I started grad school this past August? Finding ways to pay for things has been fun. Free mini speakers would be kind of awesome and make the pain of financial debt a little more bearable. Not to mention that I could enter into music wars with my neighbors.

  6. Josh Doe says:

So, I love listening to music while doing homework/research from my apartment. Unfortunately, when I decided to get a laptop that was practical for my field of study (i.e. a Thinkpad, cuz I’m a huge engineering dork), I ended up getting a laptop with very sub-par speaker capabilities. Bass is almost non-existent, and I often get some sort of interference (possibly caused by my cell phone) at higher volumes. Sadly, my neighbors are either porn stars or just the most sexually insatiable couple in the world, so in my attempts to drown out their erotic noisemakings while attempting to do work, not only do I get crappy quality sound, but also the aforementioned interference.

I used to have a JBL ipod dock that I kept in my bathroom so I could rock out while scrubbing the dirty off in the shower. However, in a freak accident involving shaving cream in the eyes, I managed to knock it off the counter and it did not fare well against the tile floor.

All in all, I live a sad, sad life that could only be salvaged with the new X-Mini speakers. SAVE ME!!!

My computer doesn’t have speakers, built-in or otherwise. Did you know those exist(ed)?

  8. Chris D. says:

I have something very similar to the X-Mini. It is a 4in. x 4in. speaker that my grandma got me as a stocking stuffer last Christmas. It takes 8 AAA batteries and if I speak above a whisper… well, i can’t speak above a whisper if I want to hear what is coming out of this thing. So i guess what I am trying to say is… Pleeeeeease pick me to win the X-Mini, I’ve been whispering for way too long! Thanks!

  9. Carlos Galvan says:

    I don’t own computer speakers…no joke :(

  10. Lucy Briggs says:

Ugh I am literally the worst at taking care of my apple headphones. Either I end up blowing them up, crushing them, shredding the cables, let them get stolen, or they get lost in the depths of my couch. I have one of those portable mini ihome things but the speakers are so bad they always clip whenever I try to listen to RJD2 and it’s really annoying. These speakers would greatly improve my life. As a music industry major and a DJ at my school’s radio station, listening to music is my entire existence. Please stop me from feeling sick after extended listening through my laptop’s built-in speakers, if that’s what you can even call them. Please and thank you!

my computer melted. the ahrd drive in it got fried, but not enough to kill microsoft word or the internet, just to kill all my music and sound. i’m a broke college student living among hicks in utah, just tryin to get a cheap education/ rent compared to every other school back east, where i’m from. i need these speakers to finally get somethin going on around here besides mormon weddings! my old ipod still speaks and i think it would be nice to listen to some beats on some speakers not just ear buds. thank you and god bless.

    I just want it:)

  14. Anthony says:

    Speakers?
You mean sound actually comes out of the computer? Well, this is embarrassing: I’ve been connecting my homemade binary decombobulafier gloves to send touch waves across my fingers in time to the music.
I had no idea that that these computer beasts could emit neutro-biotic soundwaves. I had thought myself in touch with music, only literally of course, but with some x-mini speakers I will be able to sample the aural delights of the sonic future.

  15. Rob S says:

After going through at least eight pairs of headphones and three sets of computer speakers that have all broken somehow, I have resorted to burning CDs and playing them through my little sister’s stereo. And having just started listening to Fela Kuti (which oddly coincided with this issue) I am using up all my blank CDs. Also need to impress my roomates next year and look like a cool hipster who has all his shit together.

  16. Sydney DeAllie says:

A new iPod! an event that should be the beginning of celebration and joy, the chance to not only listen, but to feel my music! an event that sadly, did not happen. A music lover among many, i consider myself to be on a quest to experience my music on another level! Music should be an experience, not an occurance. From the beginning to the end of a song, an individual should be brought to another world, swimming in the silk notes of r&b, strumming to the hooks of country, vibing with the power and passion of hip hop. These are all components of the quest for experience. The quest for music. The quest for completion. A quest that can not be brought on by a simple and inadequate pair of “headphones” I want to challenge the depth of the notes in my songs, climb the highest notes, and sink in to the deepest ones. I want to feel the base and become one with the vibes of the chorus. A true pair of speakers can be the factor separating “sound” from “music”, speakers that can lead its listener on the quest of experience and provide true and complete bliss! No longer do i want to spend painful days and nights listening to a pair of headphones from the 99 cents store with only one side working! i want to venture out on my quest! send me those speakers today!…….. please?

  17. Phillup DeCrevis says:

This comment is a tragedy. One bright spring evening of March 2009 a small man went out to the store to purchace a pair of headphones so he could go home and listen to the tunes. He saw a beautifull blue pair on the rack, and even better, they were on sale. He brought the babys home, but made one vital mistake. Showing his dear friend, and dog for 3 years, woofy the pitbull. With one swift motion, woofy grabbed the blue beautys and no longer did they exzist. Please, i am a poor soul living in this crule world with no music, and in addition to that i live with my murderer of a dog. Bless me with the gift of sound! and put my dog to shame… R.I.P those beautifull blue headpones :,-(

  18. Albert says:

Ive been listening to music using the single surviving ear bud of my headphones. The one ear bud committed suicide when I was listening to Bee Gees, damn high pitched singers of sultryness.

  19. Tom says:

I don’t even have a computer. Typing this in at the public library. Give me a pair of them speakers so I can sell them and buy a loaf of bread.

  21. Ed Fear says:

I have excellent speakers in my dining room, but a TERRIBLE amplifier. My previous one broke, and I haven’t got round to getting a new one.

My laptop speakers are equally bad. I can’t even hear a low-pitch voice, like in film trailers, properly.

  22. sarah faraone says:

these are sick.. I dont have speakers which sucks ALOT
    and i deserve them :)

  23. Danny Om says:
